Oh god this. I remember watching this when it first came out, and even then it sucked ass. Watching it again makes me glad I wasn't stupid enough to stick around with this show.

I mean shit he does look good. Who cares what he does for a living. Literally anything the other guys are doing is above the living hell Bam has done to himself.

I remember Novak did a 180 in his life and Bam made it pretty known he was really fucking jealous of him getting cleaned up and having his head on straight.

1) a big part of sobriety is getting rid of your ego and realizing that no legit job is "beneath" you.

2) Another big part is separating yourself from your old lifestyle/job, especially if it is (or has the potential to) negatively affect you (aka trigger)

3) a lot of waitstaff actually does really well. The guy could be pulling in hundreds a night in tips. Working at an oyster bar isn't the same as working 3rd shift at a shit hole diner.

Good on him, Bam could learn a lot by watching and learning. But he never will.

Is it not what addiction is all about though? Nobody starts addicted. People spiral downwards and they use any negative in their life on the moment to justify it to themselves and others.

Ultimately, I agree with you. Ryan's death is not what drove him to where he is today. Did it contribute? Probably. No matter how much you want to downplay the personal relationship, this type of personality does not react well with being confronted with their own mortality. Add to that unlimited money and clout, it's not a good recipe.

All that to say, he was fucked up to begin with in some way, for sure. He found confort in alcohol and drugs like everybody else. People can bitch and scream all they want, it is comforting. You don't get addicted to something you don't like. And just like everybody else, he tries and find excuses for his behavior, find an exit where he looks as good as possible.

When the truth is obvious to everybody. Addiction is addictive because it feels good. And it's no surprise that people would get addicted to that feeling when the world is collapsing around them.

Personally, I don't see an evil plan here. It's just plain sad.

I'm not gonna tard or PL here too much but I'm a big supporter of the Gabor Mate model of that addiction is based on trauma that you experienced as a young person. Vito was his uncle. It's not a big stretch that Bam might have had some shit going on as a kid. But he's not a kid, a matter of fact he has one of his own. If he doesn't answer this call, it's time to hang up the phone.

I am not familiar with it, so I won't try to argue on the merit of this.

In my experience, addiction is born out of avoidance behavior. Then, you can pin it on any trauma you want. Ultimately, it's just choosing for an easy self fulfilling source of confort instead of trying to fix things. It's starts innocently enough, you lie and hide here and there, but it's no big deal, just to get you through that specific day.

Then one day you wake up and you realize that you truly are fucked and can't function without. You drink 12 beers, call your dealer and decide to forget about it. Your new life begins.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the assumption that TMZ was extremely reliable since their entire reputation depends on them breaking these kind of stories with accuracy. Either way, this whole situation does make me feel oddly sad. I grew up watching Jackass, Viva La Bam, and the various spin offs and seeing someone you used to enjoy end up in this state is just depressing. Yeah TMZ isn't Gawker or a shit rag and I might be wrong but I don't think they put shit out unless it's ironclad. I don't recall instances where they fucked up I don't follow celeb news so.

But yeah I feel the same. The guy deserves his own misery, but it's really shitty to see this might be the end. Anyone who was a kid when the Jackass show was on and when the movie first came out knows what a cultural monster that was at the time. I still vaguely remember going to see the first one as a kid. It's weird seeing someone I kinda grew up with and isn't that much older than me go down such a very dark path when he's got the world by the balls financially and that isn't enough. Look at everyone that's apart of pedowood and how many have some type of self destructive addiction. Money really doesn't get you everything. It depends on the type of person you were before you got it.

Part of me says good riddance. As a dad I can't imagine how heartless you have to be to choose anything over your kid. Part of me also can't fathom being that rich that young. The brother in law’s IG story is weird, I would wager that he’s either trying to leave him with dignity intact during this dark moment or the story is being severely watered down, like for example - he has pneumonia but they don’t tell you they found him passed out drunk in a ditch or he had a meth induced stroke as 4chan claims and the COVID diagnosis came later.
