I dunno, I'm not bothered by a Black Man playing a role in something as heavily fictionalized as a musical. The clips I've heard of the Black Javert are straight up excellent musical performances. And James Earl Jones did excellent Shakespeare performances decades ago. When you go to a stage production there's no serious attempt at pretending that the actors are fully emulating reality. I wouldn't care if there was an all Filipino production of "Fiddler on the Roof" as long as they captured the message of the story and sung correctly.

It's when we get Black Men randomly popping up in "realistic" historical dramas that things get stupid. I would just start laughing if Julius Caesar was played by Wesley Snipes in the 2005 Rome TV Show. Totally different mediums but it bothered the shit out of me that the mass murdering bandit scumbags in Red Dead Redemption 2 would have a black guy (Lenny) in the outlaw gang and none of the games vile psychopaths wouldn't call him a nigger or simply treat him as a lesser being due to his skin color.

I'm not sure a black Javert is unrealistic even if it's played straight. Black men could become generals and politicians of stature in 18th/19th century France, and Javert is an impoverished thief who becomes a mayor. It's not in the source material but as far as race swaps go this wouldn't change much. Hamilton would never work with that cast if it isn't theatre (would a black Thomas Jefferson take heat for being a slaver and then go home to his black slaves...?) but on stage expectations are different. As long as PT stays in stage acting then they can do roles as either gender without much difficulty, but in film and TV dramas another level of realism is demanded.

The entertainment industry as a whole just doesn't know what to do with black actors because if they're given negative traits it gets condemned by liberal psuedointellectuals for perpetuating stereotypes and thus playing into "systemic racism." The comedy genre and its slow neutering is a prime example of this.

You know what was one of the biggest sitcoms of classic television that no one under 50 is aware of? The Jack Benny Program, it ran for 15 seasons on American television and before that was a long running radio program. A true comedic institution. It's forgotten and only occasionally aired now on an easily overlooked cable channel JLTV (Jewish Life Television) because the most popular character was Jack Benny's comedic foil butler "Rochester", a lazy drunken black man with a hilarious voice. America loved Rochester because he was just funny and had most of the punchlines, and most normal flawed people can relate to the character.

The irony is that generations later audiences still enjoy the comedy portrayed by good natured "salt of the earth" niggas. Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, and Dave Chappelle are hugely popular because they used negative stereotypes as a form of self deprecating humor. Way more entertaining and memorable than the woke garbage spewed out by Kenya Barris or Jordan Peele. For crying out loud Black People love Tyler Perry's "Madea" which has been reasonably compared to the Black Minstrel shows of vaudeville.

Why am I sperging on the subject of Blacks in Comedy? Because "black empowerment" more or less is fucking insulting to black audiences. Disney is so terrified of how it portrays Black People now to the point that they simply can't give any of the Black Marvel Superheroes any real flaws in the movies. In my eyes it's straight up patronizing.

Of course we live in a clown world where a true total loser asshole like George Floyd is earnestly proclaimed a patron saint by liberals and mass media. So there clearly is enough people in the world who want this horseshit. I'm interested to see if anyone cares to remember the utterly one-dimensional Black Power fantasies besides the mythical infallible Barack Obama.

The issue is, as you have identified, that the pandering and paternalistic view towards blacks, and black portrayals means that it's difficult to write fully fledged characters.

I remember when Force Awakened came out, with all the autistic back and forth over the black and female leads. Yet the people claiming it was pandering were right - Finn, played by in my opinion a talented actor, had an interesting backstory that was barely explored. He was a shock trooper trained to kill innocents without question, but instead of making him like Grayworm from GoT - emotionally stunted, loyal to a fault etc - or something, they just made him friendly. A waste. Rey was a Mary Sue, need I say more.

Both of those characters had potential, but the unwillingness to treat them as warts and all human beings just made them bland and boring. I feel for John Boyega who played Finn, he really had a raw deal of it imo.

It seems to be a common misconception that if a historical person was progressive in one area, it must mean they were progressive on all issues. Unfortunately, it isn't so. Like you said, MLK wanted racial equality, but was anti-LGBT. Lincoln wanted to end slavery of African americans but he didn't think they should live in the same society as whites (the same can be said of most abolitionists). Martin Luther was a refromist and against the corrupt church at the time, but was also an anti-semite and in general held a lot of beliefs that would be considered bigoted today. History (and real life in general) ain't black & white (no pun intended) and that's something that seems to be lost on most people, especially leftist social justice twats.

Not surprisingly, PT is one of them. Interestingly, PT didn't even get the grades for St A originally, but had his paper remarked so he would. I doubt any state school kid would ever get that.

I'm not from the Newcastle area, but I used to talk to someone who worked in a state school fairly local to it and it sounded rough. However, Ollie gets £14k a year schooling, goes to one of the top universities in the UK - as an aside, my personal experience with students from St. Andrews is that about half of them are either toffs with salmon shorts or nonces, which fits Ollie to a T - and now gets payed probably millions to sit and decry how awful inequality is.

Yeah, that's why I'd imagine the reason is that most BreadTubers aren't like, super serious about socialism or communism or marxism and things like that. Yes, they'll pay it some lipservice here and there and be like "capitalism is bad because X", but I don't think they're going to seriously complain that much about the system that's personally given them so many unearned advantages in life.
