I'm going to take a semi-serious swing at this, since "mansplaining" is something I'm rather irritated that Tumblr Social Justice has managed to completely fucking ruin. The word was once a useful bit of jargon, a specific tool for a very specific set of circumstances - like a tri-prong screwdriver.

Mansplaining is when a layperson confidently asserts un-asked for layperson-level (or simply incorrect) information about a topic to a person that they assume to be ignorant of such knowledge. (And the specific part) When in fact, the topic belongs to the 'splained to person's field of expertise. You cannot be mansplained to if you really are ignorant.

A stereotypical example: I took a lady friend with me to look at a used car. Because she's a gearhead and I don't know shit about cars. She pops the hood while owner talks to her about... stuff I don't even remember. I do remember he periodically looking over to me and rolling her eyes.

Since anyone can do this sort of shit, the word is often shortened to just 'splaining.

Guy on guy example: Gentleman in the gym for the first time after a New Year's Resolution confidently explains to another guy how he can gain better muscle definition. Guy he is talking to is an actual professional bodybuilder who is just wearing the usual pudge of the off-season.

Mansplaining is NOT, as Tumblr insists, "a man tells me anything, ever." Raw data is not 'splaining (this is the optimal way to heal in FF XIV). Wu specifically soliciting information on Twitter and getting an answer is not 'splaining. Professional feedback is not 'splaining (as when an industry professional told Wu she should release on Android platforms and not just Apple). Derek Smart has done a lot of things, but he never 'splained to Wu. Because Derek Smart is the closest thing there is to a 'professional' at trolling, getting trolled, and the futility of using the legal system to swat at gnats.

The world has reached the level of insanity where I'm irritated at Wu for trans-plaining what the fuck the word 'splaining is.
