Brianna Wu / John Walker Flynt - "Biggest Victim of Gamergate," Failed Game Developer, Failed Congressional Candidate

TODAY IS NATIONAL DOG DAY! Let's celebrate by keeping our dogs in makeshift "cages" that are too small for them to even lie down in!

EDIT: obligatory dogkino

And then there's Shedinja. 1 HP but goddamn I still can't recall what actually damages it - I cheated and used Jirachi's (had a friend with a game shark during elementary school) special Doom Desire (a.k.a. the 'God lasers from the sky Fuck-You instant win button') attack against those fuckers. But Wu probably doesn't even understand legendary types from mega evolutions.

Shedinja's not even hard. Fire, Ghost, Dark, Rock, Flying, or kill it with literally any environmental effect or residual damage (leech seed, for instance). The reason it's dangerous is that a player can keep it in reserve then throw it out against a legendary like Kyogre or Raikou and basically be completely invincible.

There is nothing about Pokemon that requires more than a grade-school education to understand.

More proof of Wu's terrible sense of taste.

To everyone who is shocked by Johnny struggling with Pokemon, remember that he also thought assembling a pre designed computer was something a major techie could do, even though it's more or less just like one of those "this shape goes in this hole" puzzles for adults. She's like Chris in that because she's such an arrogant asshole with no life experience, she believes that if she struggles with it and she's a genius, then this thing must truly be a feat only a select few are capable of.

As for the "learning curve" with type matchups with Pokemon, while I haven't played in years I seem to remember at each gym there's a NPC at the start that explains the weaknesses of that gym leader's preferred type in detail in every single game. Wu is just struggling to keep up this new famgled Pokemanz that those blasted kids are always yammering about, it's natural for someone her age.
Beyond that NPC, the routes around a town with a gym almost always have Pokemon you can catch that are effective at fighting the gym. You know, because Pokemon is very well designed game that encourages its main themes.

Speaking of game design, let's talk about music in a game. When I watched the stream Brianna did awhile back, one of the things that stuck out to me among all the other blunders was how badly the music for Rev60 is handled. Whatever is playing at any time doesn't feel "right" for the scene it's in and it doesn't do anything to enhance the mood. Final Fantasy battle music is frantic to get you pumped for the fight or, to use a Pokemon example, the Lavender Town theme is eerie and haunting due to the graveyard there. What am I supposed to feel when that one song Wu is so proud of plays? A better use of Brianna's time would have been to scour the royalty-free music sites to find something that could have worked for the game better. Then again, that's more work than checking lighting boxes in Unreal.

The only Pokemon game you can get pretty fucked early on is the original Red/Blue versions if you pick charmander as a starter because the first gym is Brock and the only Pokemon available up until that point are ratatat, pidgy, and the caterpillar one. All of which get wrecked by rock types.

Another thing with Wu/Flynt is that they come from old money. Stupidly rich old money with parents who have large influence with politics
Actually, I think John is from new money, not old money. His dad was a doctor who joined the Navy and then went into private practice when he got out. By all indications, Dr. Flynt earned his fortune himself as his practice grew into a medical center.
If you look up John's brother, who's a normal well-adjusted guy, he works a regular middle-class job, not jet-setting around like some Saudi prince.
And as for the Flynts' supposed political pull, that's just John's self-aggrandizement. Joel and Laura did donate enough to get invited to rubber-chicken dinners and photo-ops, but they weren't any sort of political big wheels.

The countermeasure is "Catch a male Nidoran and level grind until it learns Double Kick" or "Level Grind Charmander until it learns Ember".

I'd love to see Wu play Pokemon Colosseum if the thinks the current generation's run is that difficult.

Part of me believes that ranting about "Pokemanz so hurd!" is just bait to be quite honest, given the very nature of the fanbase and the general consensus that the games have become a lot easier over the years. I believe Sun and Moon is also presenting a handicap that straight up tells you which moves are effective and not so much.

They even fixed that in FRLG when they gave Charmander the ability to learn a Steel move, which is super effective against rock. Hell they fixed that in Yellow where you could catch Mankeys west of Viridian City, which are also pretty effective against Rock. A little bit of thinking does wonders for game design.

But nah Pokémon is 2hard4me. I can't even pay my way into getting good, shit game.

Or even 'Level Grind Caterpie until it learns something useful'.

This is from the Chelsea Van Valkenburg thread, but this needs to be discussed. Remember the initial Chatterwhiteman threats towards Wu, the ones that led her to becoming part of the Rat King in the first place? We always thought it was simply SA that was involved with that, but the leaks and recent news from veteran SA posters reveal the real culprit:

ZOE QUINN AND THE CLIQUE THEMSELVES.

A man in a TV show did something, that has to be male privilege.

It's completely inescapable that almost everything John says is bait just to say something so blindingly idiotic that anyone with a functioning brain who sees it will respond with something like STFU you goddamn moron, just so John can continue to fuel the bogus "harassment" shit that props up his Patreon.
