Can't find it at the moment, but there was a recent study demonstrating that people who are pathological liars are more likely than normies to believe the lies of others and to fall for scams.
IIRC, the method of action was "When you are a pathological liar, to lie convincingly you need to believe the lie you're telling, so the portions of your brain that detect deception start to atrophy as you stop listening to them so you don't give off physical indicators of lying. So when obviously false information is presented that they want to believe, they are able to convince themselves that it could be true"
or to put it another way, pathological liars get good at lying to to everyone, including themselves.
