A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Right, I've been there a few times over the past year and I'm absolutely furious that the entire concert area of Manchester is packed so close to the shithole that is Picadilly. Yes it's down a very long road from Picadilly but there's almost no other option to get to the o2 (both) or the Albert Hall without having to do the walk of shame down 'closed' chicken shops, thai massage parlours, vape shops, curry houses, 'traditional' pubs that are empty??? and mobile phone repair shops.

I've got a gig coming up that, due to timing issues meant the only venue I could attend was Manchester and even then I'm thinking of sacking it off and seeing if I can attend Newcastle (the last bastion of whites that hasn't been completely Deliveroo'd). Best bet is to zip your phone and wallet into your pants, PLAN WHERE YOU ARE GOING before setting off and have a good grasp of the layout first. Either look driven, or look like you know the place like the back of your hand as I spot tourists a fucking mile off. If you can too then you're sound, they'll probably be the ones viewed as easy marks while you can go grab a burger in peace.

Picadilly Gardens itself is shit, it's a tiny fucking patch of grass surrounded by urban hellscape and tram stops, and every time I've passed by there there's some fucking Bomalian just doing a completely one way conversation on his mobile phone.

So if you know where you're going, have a good time. Deansgate is still relatively alright but has plummeted hard over the past 10 years (used to be a really fun place to have some cheap pints) if you're going for the nightlife in general then you're going to have a very eyeopening experience and unlock racist areas of your brain that you never even knew about.
 
@Tom Nook's Gloryhole You failed to mention dodging delivery bike drivers, only an 8/10 on the general Manchester warning scale and a 5/10 on the racism scale.

Yes, they are all non-white and seem to be aiming for whites when they run lights or mount the curb.

I would agree but then I realized israel proper actually has their own roving gang of refugees and their children stabbing and robbing everyone. HIAS (yes that one from america) is trying to integrate them into israel.

This is due to years of the police and intelligence services not doing anything about literal islamists that conservative muslim countries don't even tolerate, they'd rather focus on some edgy school kid who said heil hitler and now has to be under intense surveillance to stop them from committing a far right terror attack that has literally never happened. There's this really good documentary channel 4 made called "The Jihadis next door" when isis was at its height, in it some islamist makes public statements in support of isis, he gets arrested and the police just let him go, then he travels to isis controlled syria where he died lol.

(I miss when state run broadcasters used to be good Channel 4 is probably the best one atm but thats not saying much)

They've aided and abetted this behaviour for years and now cry bloody murder when it finally arrived to them. Fuck em.

I think I just filter them out nowadays, at the start I was wary of them because they were retarded looking niggers and arabs wearing a huge backpack and I thought "There's no better delivery of a big fucking bomb than riding into a crowd of people with a backpack like that" then I realised that they're too fucking dumb to even think of that, as the only mass murder these glass of water IQ types can think of is walking directly up to people slowly with a knife and slashing.

What I don’t understand is why they all leave their home and come here, whereas there’s 3 billion Chinese and they only send students and a few gangsters. Guess the standard of living in China must be better. That and our ruling elite have their collective hands up their arses where China’s concerned and regard them all as enemies if they’re not selling shit on Temu.

I don't think the standard of living is better, I think they are just more closed off. IMHO China doesn't want to pollute the Han Chinese with (globalist) foreign values; they allow their factories to make gay rights tshirts, ghosts, casino chips, to sell to the rest of the world, but they don't allow it within the Chinese population; they allow Maccau to be a gambling hotspot because it makes a shit ton of money from foreigners. The thing with Charles, is that while he may act like a massive fucking faggot sometimes, this is a man who was the Crown Prince, and spent seven decades being prepared for this sort of thing, with the best PR people imaginable working on his image and trying to ensure that nothing untowards about him sticks (to debatable results). Public speaking and all that sort of stuff. It's one of the big positives of monarchy. They tend to have a good grasp of charisma.
Ironically enough they tend to be more charismatic and good at getting people to like them than the fucking people who need to win popularity contests.

See if a deal can be struck with Canada or New Zealand or someone to take them - because you know they’d never move to a Muslim country.

Traitors don't get a say in where they're banished to. Traditionally I thought they got moved to the morgue.

My thought would be, where did all these people with such suicidal empathy come from ? Empathy is encouraged towards the victim groups of the causes, but where is that empathy when violence is commendable when acted out on those who disagree ? Such has always been the hypocritical nature of Marxism.

50 years ago there was nothing like the number of people that supported all these fruity little causes just to feel good about themselves.

I suppose I've always been selfish. I'll help and care about my family and then my friends. After that colleagues in a very half ( 1/10th ) measure. But I'm afraid big organisations, the country ( it's clearly not my country any more )....pass. The high trust, in it together society is over, the political leaders are all people I loathe ( honourable exception to Mr Lowe ) - society as a whole no longer resembles me physically or in its opinions, so why should I support it ? I already pay way more than a proportionate amount in tax to support people that despise me.
