A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I think that a mass defection of Labour MPs to Corbyn's party would likely see a vote of no confidence triggered. I don't think that the re-brand of Labour to whatever Corbyn is doing would lead to some kind of reset to status quo. It seems more likely to me that the ones who will jump ship to Corbyn will be the Corbynites and/or the Islamists, and I don't think that would sit well for the rest of the Labour coalition.

Call me controversial, but I'd rather the UK slide down to the position of a second-rate power and focus on gaining some level of long-term economic and societal stability, than desperately tearing up and selling our future to try and keep the green GDP line up for a few more years.

The modern economic world's desire for constant growth has ruined the world.
 
Throw in some basic abilities to call people nasty names online without going to jail and I think we’ve got a winning platform. I don’t envy any competent government the task of delousing their police and bureaucracy.

If something drops in weight one month, best wait more than one month in-between the price rise.
We're not fucking stupid, regardless of what the corpos and govt think. It's been going on ages and shows no signs of slowing, either.
Everything is too expensive and the circuses have too many authoritarian ring-masters, not enough entertainment.
People are fed up, poor, and increasingly unable to feed themselves and their children, while they watch people who first set foot here yesterday get everything free.
Not a recipe for stability.

Even a small bottle of coke has doubled in price. Now super markets are running a scam where they price a single bottom at £2 but offer you 2 for £3.50. I remember when they costed £1 and it wasn't that long ago. Small bottles now cost what 2 litre ones used to.

This is a winning platform but I don't trust the politicians to actually enact it.

It's also a deceleration of war against the browns. Make no mistake about it, I tell you what boyo, I tell you what. The browns are going to go fucking ape shit over this and will try to take it out on as many white people as possible. Reform is White power in UK form and the non-whites have been weaponized and raised to feel like they're owed everything and every white person is a nazi. They will try everything they can to keep reform out of power and if they can't you can expect massive civil unrest. Browns don't see the boat invaders as enemies, they're brown and likely related to people 'legally" here.

I would be prepping basic resources. Enough food, water and loo roll to survive if major disruptions happen. Clear out a bedroom closet and stack it with cheap as chips food and set up a way to collect and filter rain water if you live in a rural area. Think of how bad Covid was when lockdowns started and then add roaming gangs of muslims like we saw in Birmingham. Prepare to survive a muslim uprising if you're any where near a large population because they will try to fight back if Reform gets in.

I feel like I've heard this song and dance before in the UK. It almost feels like "let's just throw them a bone to keep them down for a while".

What do people think the UK is going to look like by 2029? It's never too late but I don't think they can afford to wait that long either.

I'll tweak it for 'em:
  • Top-down Home Office reform. Restoring it to non-partisan status
  • Withdrawal from the ECHR
  • Withdrawal from the UN Global Migration Pact
  • NGOs involved in the aid of migrants (legal or otherwise) to have their charity status removed and be declared proscribed organisations
  • Law firms aiding migrants' entry to the UK to be investigated by the SRA and/or lawyers disbarred
  • Total freeze on legal aid for asylum claims
  • Social media accounts aiding entry to the UK to be shut down. If they are operated by UK citizens; owners' assets are frozen
  • Total freeze on asylum claims. Any claims in progress to be halted
  • Ex-service bases to be converted into internment camps. No more "free to roam". All illegals to be held in these facilities indefinitely until they can be returned to their point of origin
  • Royal Navy to patrol the English Channel. Returning all migrant boats in UK waters to sections of the Channel that are classed as International Waters. Any further incursions into UK waters are classed as a hostile act

All of these doable if any of them have the bottle for it.

To both these quotes I say the same thing; the people who think like this do so because they have never been up close with anyone other than the nice couple at the corner shop, or their GP. Your girl at work is about to have her local go from a nice place to have Sunday lunch and a pint, to the place where actual fresh off the boat rapey immigrants are housed. If she lives in the village she’s now going to see and encounter them and the people who have to live very close by. When rhe hotels close and these people are distributed all over the country anyone who lives anywhere with rental housing is going to get them. Maybe her queen bee has a nice house in the village and will go from poor boys don’t be racist to full on 1488 after her kids get leered at or her sister gets assaulted.
What I’m saying is that the number of people who don’t see this stuff up close is getting smaller and smaller due to the actions of the government and the sheer number of them. As that happens, more and more people become aware.
There is starting to be pushback. It’s not going to happen overnight. Brits don’t work like that.
My guess is that things almost get there this summer, summer down a bit, then there’s some Happenings in the autumn, winter of discontent 2.0 and then next spring and summer, things kick off.

Consider the following, being filmed saying "I am racist" or "I am far right." will get you vanned by a corrupt population hating police force in Britannistan right now for a hate crime. The actual spirit is there though, it's just hard to say these things in a country where there is no such thing as free speech.
