$ (BTC) The Bitcoin Thread - NO SHITCOINERS ALLOWED

Is that currency as solidly backed as the Bolivar ?
The only reason Bitcoin is worth more than 5 cents is because you can get something you actually can use for it - USD.

And if at anytime in the future it was ever illegal to swap BTC for USD, it would become worthless. Whereas right now if you forbid the USD being converted into BTC....its still worth a USD and no one would give a shit if your USD couldn't buy a BTC.

Don't kid yourself.

When people ask what is my house worth they answer its worth "x" USD.
When people ask what is my BTC worth, they answer its worth "x" USD.

I usually answer in deutschmarks.

But anyway, calm down. Some items and services are exclusively BTC.
Ask the glowies which ones.

As of now. The monetary unit principle being in favour of fiat, only lasts as long as the fiat is sustained. What happens when the USD is worth (next to) nothing? It's more likely than not to happen at some point.

Nixon decoupled for a reason, it's all free floating funny money now.

I guess you could knit yourself a nice paper money sweater to keep you warm....

There isn't going to be a time in the next 50 years when the USD is worthless.

And while I understand the Crypto basis; it is essentially there to be a speculative market because eventually countries will issue their own crypto currencies merely to facilitate more liquid movement.

It holds true that in this world and the world in the ext 10 years every Crypto will be valued based on how much Fiat it can be converted to because Fiat is legal tender, plain and simple.

And tomorrow if Bitcoin was allowed to be legal tender, then it would naturally need to come under price control which is something no one in Crypto wants.

They can't have it both ways and this will be evidently clear as to why once someone applies broader principles to it. Crypto is as wonderful technology - but it is being hyped as many things - and many of those things it just plainly is not.

For the meantime it is a brilliant way to make money as a speculator and this is about all it is good for - at the moment anyways.

I'll take a USD backed by the US Government and it's Quadrillions of owned natural resources, power, military and control over a crypto that is essentially majorly owned by a handful of whales/backed by absolutely nothing but...ether...

But as I said, it is a wonderful speculator tool for profit.

not financial advice but I've gotten out of riskier alts and tethered up a bit

unless you need money asap sell at your own peril lads

nothing has fundamentally changed about clown world, hyperinflation, economic uncertainty, the job market, etc.

obviously if you're over-leveraged then fix that but even some of the people I turn to that work in the industry have no idea what's about to happen, could go either way

How is the USD 'backed' ?
When at the very hint of a 'crisis', trillions are printed, instantly devaluing the currency.
Look at a 'basket' of goods from 2014, 2015, 2009, 2018, 1994.
Then compare to the average household income. Plot it out. Then try not to panic.

YOU are the backer of the USD. YOU and the millions that agree.
but
Less are agreeing daily.

Ain't she a beaut?

...old news, but not many are posting about how Bitcoin is having problems in El Salvador.

The first post says 'thread with some affected by the Chivo Wallet'.
The screenshots in the (so far) 80-Twee thread is just many people talking about how their transfers in cryptocurrency are not being resolved and some not being able to even access their accounts. Support is not responding to them.

This is a chivo wallet problem, not a bitcoin problem.

Some interesting data and outlook from Fidelity:
