Law Bucks County commissioners vote to count illegal ballots in Pennsylvania recount - "I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn't matter anymore in this country, and people violate laws anytime they want"

Gazette (A)

Bucks County commissioners voted to count ballots lacking proper signatures, violating a Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling earlier this year.

The three-member board voted two to one to count these illegal ballots in the Senate race recount.

“I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn't matter anymore in this country, and people violate laws anytime they want,” Diane Marseglia said. “So for me, if I violate this law, it's because I want a court to pay attention to it.”

Board chairman Robert Harviie, Jr., joined Marseglia in voting to accept the ballots that voters signed in one section but not another. Democrats challenged the decision not to count the ballots, placing the blame for the mistake on poll workers who did not double-check the provisional ballots before accepting them.

The board's legal team suggested the commissioners reject the ballots because the Pennsylvania Supreme Court had given clear guidance about signatures being required for votes to count.

There were approximately 124 ballots that would not count because of missing signatures.

Republican Sen.-elect David McCormick won 48.93% of the vote and Democratic incumbent Bob Casey captured 48.50% of the vote, thus triggering a recount.

However, as of Wednesday, there are approximately 80,000 left to be counted, including 20,000 mail-in and absentee ballots and around 60,000 provisional ballots.

Counties must begin their recount on Nov. 20 and have until Nov. 27 to report their results to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Casey, the third-term Senator, has not yet conceded the race.

Philadelphia City Commissioners also voted to count a "relatively small number of undated and incorrectly dated mail ballots."

"Republicans filed a petition to the PA Supreme Court against all counties to attempt to stop all counties from counting these ballots," Philadelphia City Commissioners said in a statement to Fox News. "They also filed a statutory appeal challenging Bucks County’s decision to count undated and incorrectly dated mail ballots. We are reviewing the filings."

An RNC official told Fox News that the decisions made by the county election boards were “ridiculous.” The GOP has filed two lawsuits against Bucks County and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to stop the counting of these ballots.

"The court just ruled on this two weeks ago,” an RNC official said. “And it's just very clear to us that Democrat lawyers and officials see a way to kind of make money off of Bob Casey by trying out this process, but Dave McCormick is already in D.C. to attend Senate orientation."

Republicans hold the majority in the Senate by 52-47 without including Sen.-elect McCormick’s seat.

The PA SCOTUS ruled on this again a couple of hours ago in a decision that came quicker than expected. The voting of these ballots is to stop immediately and they are to be discounted. I don't know what the consequence will be if they don't stop. I've read about the counters potentially getting arrested, but I don't know if that's how that can work?

The courts are only incredibly slow when they don't give a shit(always) directly questioning their authority while being a government official is an express way to get legally ass raped.

"I was misunderstood, I was just trying to start a conversation, wah!"
The Board of Commissioners chair at the center of the voting controversy in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, regarding the Dave McCormick-Bob Casey Senate race said her comments about violating laws were “misinterpreted.”
Diane Ellis-Marseglia tried to walk back her previous comments on Monday, suggesting that she did not mean she supported breaking the law or violating the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. She claimed that her words were misinterpreted, misconstrued, and taken out of context, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She also apologized for her comments and the “confusion it caused.”
“I apologize for all the upset and confusion it caused,” Ellis-Marseglia, Democrat in Bucks County, said, taking a different, more conciliatory tone than the one she had last week.
Last Thursday, Ellis-Marseglia was one of two Bucks County Commissioners who voted to count ballots that did not have the necessary signatures to be considered valid. This decision directly violated what Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court ruled earlier this year. The controversy was propelled into the national spotlight over the close race between Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Republican candidate Dave McCormick.
“I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country, and people violate laws anytime they want,” Ellis-Marseglia said last week. “So for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention to it.”
Many Republicans and Democrats criticized her words, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who rebuked the Democrats on the county board who disobeyed the court’s ruling.
“Any insinuation that our laws can be ignored or do not matter is irresponsible and does damage to faith in our electoral process,” Shapiro said. “It is critical for counties and officials in both parties to respect it with both their rhetoric and their actions.”

Moreover, due to the controversy caused by the Democrats on the Bucks County Board, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court repeated its position and added a ruling not to count any ballot that did not meet the necessary requirements, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. And, despite her apology on Monday, Ellis-Marseglia claimed the ruling was helpful because it gave her clarity on the legal issues surrounding the ballots.
“This is exactly what I was hoping for, for the court to weigh in and give us clarity,” Ellis-Marseglia said. “We were under a stay, and now we have full clarity.”

Lara needs to fucking do something
They've got lawyers on it, but I've said this before--the states' Republican parties need to stop this, and that's going to take the voting public getting involved, not waiting for lawyers to figure it out for them.

The time when Americans could trust their elected officials to do the right and legal thing has passed, but it can be regained again. It's going to take effort, though, to get decent people back into those positions and yank out the tares. At least this time the republican senators are planning on doing something instead of sitting on their hands and shrugging.

Then the judge needs to simply issue warrants over contempt of court and throw the board members in jail until after the new Congress is seated and counting no longer matters.

In a just country these kinds of shenanigans would come with life at hard labor sentences or the end of a rope. Anyone involved with election fraud should be seen as actually attacking the country because the vote is supposed to be sacred and not constantly tampered with until the DNC gets their way. Election officials at every level should be in fear for their very lives and liberty if they even think about election interference.

Of course we don't live in a just country.

Or the public can haul a couple of election officials out of their homes and string them up right there in the streets to express their disapproval.

It is pretty strange. There are legal ways to cheat, illegal ways, and grey areas of the law that are still technically legal anyway.

But here is why it is strange, the negative consequences for these actions can be a slap on the wrist or time in federal prison. But the consequence of getting a world leader into power affects millions maybe billions of people for years.

Openly subverting the "democracy" they hold so dear. And then a pathetic backtrack, the same taken out of context/misinterpretation horseshit they always fall back on. A courtesy never extended to Republicans. Yeah, this bitch needs to be fired. By a firing squad.

The Republicans in the Senate have already said they will refuse to seat Casey if he is declared the winner.
How does seating work? If it's a simple majority I could see several RINOs voting to seat Casey.

Bucks County chair claims comment about violating laws ‘any time they want’ was misinterpreted

The board of commissioners chair at the center of the voting controversy in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, involving the Senate race between Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Republican challenger David McCormick said her comments about violating laws were “misinterpreted.”

Diane Ellis-Marseglia tried to walk back her words on Monday, suggesting she did not mean she supported breaking the law or violating the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. She claimed that what she said was misinterpreted, misconstrued, and taken out of context, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She also apologized for her comment and the “confusion it caused.”
“I apologize for all the upset and confusion it caused,” said Ellis-Marseglia, a Democrat in Bucks County.

Last Thursday, Ellis-Marseglia was one of two Bucks County commissioners who voted to count ballots that did not have the necessary signatures to be considered valid. This decision directly violated what Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court ruled earlier this year. The controversy was propelled into the national spotlight due to the close race between Casey and McCormick.

In light of the controversy caused by the Democrats in Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court repeated its position and added a ruling not to count any ballot that did not meet the necessary requirements, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. This action was found to be pleasing to Ellis-Marseglia, who, despite her apology on Monday, claimed the ruling was helpful because it gave her clarity on the legality of the ballots and what to do with them.

“This is exactly what I was hoping for, for the court to weigh in and give us clarity,” Ellis-Marseglia said. “We were under a stay, and now, we have full clarity.”

A poor execution of the classic and always terrible "It's just a prank bro, it was all misinterpreted, I was just a little confused bro." crisis response tactic.

Why the fuck are they kvetching over Casey so hard? Even if he did totally win the seat for the 600th time this still doesn't tip the Senate in the Dems favor.

This criminal (not defamatory, she bragged about doing it) whore (matter of opinion) is going to get the Democrat Party banned from running in Pennsylvania if she keeps this up, and I wish her luck in her criminal (a confirmed and well-documented matter of public record, and not a baseless allegation) endeavors. I hope it succeeds!
