Volunteered at another education event the other day, took some roaches and hopefully introduced many kids to the bug life. I also participated in the southeast pollinator census, basically a citizen science thing where you watch a flowering plant for 15 minutes and check all the pollinators that stop by. I saw many bees, butterflies, wasps, and other pollinators

Pics of some bees and a wasp (apparently the species is both a pollinator and natural pest control for Japanese and June beetles)

Found this funny looking wasp today.
Landed and relaxed a bit and didn't seem to mind me getting close to film!
So used to seeing the invasive yellow-jackets that I forget the much nicer native wasp species in eastern NA.

Can't attach video :( have this stillwasp.jpg

I donated some hissers to a local educational facility yesterday :)

My colony is looking a bit sparse for my liking though so I've moved some guys around to try and get more breeding going and am gonna try to get some fresh blood.

I try to rescue inside spiders most of the time when I see them but I like outside spiders more. This year I have a big leggy lady who has taken up residence in one of my kitchen windows and since I can't open it with no screen anyway she's become my little outside inside friend.

Grass spiders look a lot like wolf spiders but with spinnerets on their butts. They make a long flat web with a funnel at one end and sprint out of it to stab anything that wanders in, and they are fast. Normally they're at best a nuisance since they make a lot of messy webs on the creek side of the house and at worst an unpleasant startle because they're so large, but I've grown fond of this one. She's about as big as they get, too. I think she's been eating particularly well since I power washed the competition.
