Bully 2 - Alternatively, Canis Canem Edit 2 for Europoors

Is this game gonna suck?

To me that concept art is so intriguing, it looks like they wanted Jimmy to be way younger (judging by the height) and have a sketchbook-like style for the game. Maybe they also wanted the game to be set in the late 90s or early 2000s, that's the vibe I get from his appearance but maybe I'm just reading too much into it. After that they switched to a much more realistic but still somewhat cartoony artstyle:
Bully went for a "timeless approach," although it's obvious there was inspiration with the 70-80s. I mean, Greasers? New England? Boarding school?

It worked.

Lets say this is real and that it is happening , this will either be a solid 6 out of ten or awful , i see zero inbetween.

It will either be the last gasp of rockstar's old ways , a sort of farewell to stuff before they went hard into being serious , with new "edge" and shitty politics on the surface but some heart underneath it all.

Or it will be utter dog shit that tackles woke issues with all the grace of a 747 plowing into a corn field , it will feature evil nazis as the main villian and have actually honest-to-god weapons in it and have none of the charm of bully 1.

Would there be a worse cultural climate to make a game called "Bully"?
It was a bad time 15 years ago. It had to be retitled to be sold in Europe as Canis Canem Edit. People at least know what to expect and we don't have Jack Thompson anymore.

I didnt play the first one but RDR2 (which has some bully easter eggs) is the very essence of my being. I'd play it. I saw a speedrun that got me interested in the first one, but Bully 1 was the original bad Rockstar steam port. Please make a good port first.

I think that's a great subtitle than just Bully.

The 360 version was botched as well. Wii version worked fine, however.

It was still vaguely meant to be contemporary times, but you're right, it also had a timeless approach.

It'd be great if we could get just one last good Rockstar game, in fact I feel like Bully 2 would be the perfect note to end on.

It was, but it didn't impact the actual game itself, unlike how it probably would today.

Bully is a great example of the saying that sometimes "less is more", exploring a smaller, more intimate map as a kid that was a little more detailed per square inch than the more typical massive GTA map was really cool.

Maybe for a sequel it could be a deal where every NPC in the town is a specific character with a specific routine, taking a page from something like Majora's Mask.

Totally! The town part of the map was pretty great, because there weren't a whole lot of buildings and most of them had some sort of function. Like how the game store had a basement that acted as your "room" away from Bullworth, or how the Carnival area was packed full of stuff to do and look at. I'd much rather have a smaller map if that meant that each area served some function or was more filled.

Well the new Jack Thompson is twitter + journalists complaining about violence and gamers being bad so nothing changed that much

I have no hope for modern rockstar, but if they can make it at least playable it would be ok. The story is gonna be mediocre because of the political climate, so no risks and spicy commentary (only boring cliches and safe jokes uwu).
My only hope is that the music would be good.

I don't care if the game is shit as long as they give me another Shawn Lee soundtrack. Then I'll at least by able to listen to it while pretending the sequel never happened.
Hearing the pixie like sound effects with the guitar reminded me of Peter Pan in a way. I don’t know why, but it’s calming when you have Jimmy just walking in the snow.

Of course, this is before actual bullies step to you and you have to run away and the music gets dramatic and (almost) hardcore.
