Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Raven also worked on the campaign. Activision has several studios working on each game.
I wonder what Sledgehammer's gonna do in the future.

Will they get another shot at making a new COD, or will they be forced to become a support studio?

Finished Black Ops 2 and World at Wars campaigns. Black Ops 2's campaign was pretty good and also managed to do a better Job than Mass effect 3 at having distinct endings based on your choices. However the game also has china as the good guys and you have to save Hillary

World At War's campaign was fucking excellent though Im not a fan of how it constantly swaps between the marines and the Soviets. 3, MW, And BO2 also do this but the difference is that the plot threads in those games are connected to each other while the ones in world at war are not so you get some funky shit like the third to last level chronologically taking place before the final level

My current campaign rankings are

5. COD 3

4. COD 2

3. Black Ops 2

2. World at War

1. MW 2007

China doesn’t have be the good guys, if you don’t do the Strike Force misssions they end up aligning with Cordis Die

For marketing purposes, they'll be another studio. I was unimpressed with Advanced Warfare. WWII wasn't favored as much as World at War. I'm guessing Sledgehammer will do another contained story with the advancements Modern Warfare brought.

I'm guessing because of rushed development, Black Ops III and IV, and Corona, Black Ops: Cold War was made to establish goodwill for the Black Ops brand while capitalizing on the success Modern Warfare brought.

Personally, I think Modern Warfare could've been a platform. I'm optimistic Black Ops Cold War could coexist with Modern Warfare, but this is Activision.

CoD cannot afford to be a yearly franchise anymore. It will cannibalize with itself AND the stories are usually rushed or watered down. More time while supporting these two games would be good for the developers AND the players.

Gamers can be extremely retarded, they complain every year that the game sucks but they buy it every year. Why bother, they're all the fucking same only the new ones have the added bonus of having scummy hidden SBMM. I don't know how anybody can stand the ultra-sweaty, jumping around the corner, dopamine championship simulator that call of duty has become. I remember when COD was about stomping on little kids and calling them pussies, now no one even has their mic on and they inject their penis with GFUEL in between matches.

Maybe it's only because I've been on here and the BOCW subreddit, but I find the complaints of SBMM really exaggerated. Yeah if I have a really good game my next game tends to be hard as fuck, but I also see the opposite of that happen. For the most part most of the matches feel balanced and I have fun.

For all the talk that subreddit does about wanting to just have a fun casual game, what they really seem to want is to play nothing but little kids and stomp them without trying. In that case there are the fucking bots I say.

And it isn't like I'm a great CoD player. I'm average on a good day. Haven't played CoD multiplayer seriously since...maybe Black Ops 2 to be honest. I can't quick scope. My highest streak without camping or being cheap is like 5. I'm still averaging positive K/D more than negative though. I'm not seeing this over abundance of sliding and jumping. Etc. Etc. Is it because I only play Team DM, Domination and Hardpoint?

The subreddit tells me it's because I suck and I'm in a lower bracket, but if that's the case why am I the one not bitching about how fucking hard the game is and that I can't have fun? Shouldn't these people be with me if they're not "playing sweaty" and just trying to have some nice casual fun?

The whole SBMM think has been debunked by the developers who said that all CODs going back to MW2 had SBMM

I totally agree with your second point, they want dumb bots to grind their camo and whine when they don't get it.

I think there's always a learning curve with any new COD as well as the top tier players jumping ship to the next COD when it comes out which is why the latest game always feels so 'hard'

When MW2019 dropped I was still waiting on my copy and playing BO4 and found the people I was facing were just awful, I assumed it was because all the good players were over in MW2019.

Similarly I don't think Cold War is nearly as hard as Black Ops 4, I had a positive K/D ratio by my 3rd game. BO4 had a long time to kill and I never could take on more than one enemy at the same time without getting killed. While in Cold War I routinely get double kills and sometimes tripple kills.

SBMM (skill based matchmaking) is going to be the bane of many players' existence for Modern Warfare and Black Ops: Cold War.

The gist of this method of matchmaking is that you get matched up with similarly skilled players. The better you do, the better your competition will be. Vice versa.

Halo 3 perfected this with having ranked and social playlists. Ranked playlists would rank you and adjust accordingly based on performance. Social playlists would just matchmake you with anybody.

The issue here is that SBMM is hidden. There's no rank other than natural progression. How do you know if you're better than X or Y? Halo 3 would give you a rank by number that you could see. And you can't turn it off.

CoD was meant to be a casual multiplayer experience. You would naturally get better over time; some games you would dominate, some you would get demolished. Matchmaking was just random.

Add ranked playlists or go back to region based matchmaking.

The last update brought about a shit ton of horrible bugs, but most of the posts on the subreddit are retards bitching about not liking the main menu and how they still can't stomp kids due to the dreaded SBMM.

Also people getting excited for skins they're going to sell.

Sheesh

I heard somewhere that SBMM has been a thing in COD since COD4. It's just not until recently, it's been cranked up to the max. It could also be a human factor from the new zoomer menace being sweatlords every game and that they are making up a larger and larger part of the playerbase

Just because there was SBMM before doesn't mean it was the same implementation, I'm sure they're using more and more scummy practices over time. Honestly if you want to play a competitive game I don't understand why it would be COD, COD was always about running around and having fun. COD sucks as a competitive game, there are much better games that exist for competitive play. Plus those games don't use every available oppurtunity to compress the skill gap like COD does.

People talk about CoD being casual but then get mad when they don't win.

Am I just not getting this or am I legit having a stroke or something? If it was never competitive why did I always have to hear people stress out over K/D ratios and shit?

I know BO2 had Ranked Play. Is that what he's talking about?

Literally the last game of BO2 I've played, I went 12-1 SnD. Game before that, I had negative stats.
No he's not talking about Ranked play, because he said all of the prior games had SBMM, and BO2 was the only one with Ranked Play out of the ones listed
