Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I heard that the Infinite Warfare and WWII iterations were more like you proposed, or at least were less cryptic.

I don't know myself, I never tried them out after I played that bullshit map that launched with Black Ops III.

Shadows of evil is manageable, but it is only beatable in co-op

Why can't they just add more zombies with each wave and still allow you to kill them with headshots?
The system can't handle all those entities at once. It'll crash the game. Fun fact: Mob of the Dead doesn't have boarded windows in the spawn room because the map was already allocating too much memory.

I wish Zombies was more straight forward like Gears of War's Horde Mode, that shit would be awesome.

Really, why do I need a fucking online walkthrough open just to know what I should be doing?

I know what you mean, I really want to like it because they clearly put a lot of effort and production value in it, but man... shooting zombies turning into bullet sponges and having to ace shit else you gotta replay everything from the start again is annoying af. also hell with pugs.

like extinction from ghosts a lot more due to it's structure and not about being zombies again. however the game bombed and it was dead most of the time.

that's another thing where activision is clearly retarded, just split that shit up. split everything into a $20 purchase so you can buy the parts you want independently and don't die together with the main title would do wonders for longevity (otoh they want you to the next one the following year, so...)

I dunno about being woke, since Ubisoft catches shit for the Far Cry games or the Division series.

the only shit they catch is not being woke enough actually (surprising considering division is done by swedes, I expected the writing to drive off a cliff for the sequel). it waves a LGBT flag right about a prominent vendor tho fwiw.

meanwhile you get shit like watch_dogs 2/3.

Finally, a zombies teaser. The juggernog jingle plays so they're probably bringing back the old perk system (thank god) and a monkey bomb is in there at one point, but other than that there's very little to go on. Looks like some sort of secret lab map?
If it doesn’t have custom zombies, it’s a deal breaker

99% of custom zombies is complete and utter dog shit, there are a few decent maps but it's way down there on the priority list for me, especially since we already have WaW and blops3 custom zombies. Having a slightly newer version isn't going to make for any better custom maps.

MP reveal is live. (On mobile, hopefully the link works.)

Some thoughts what I caught.
-Vehicles in MP. Hopefully they stay out of 6s, and I won't mind them too much.
-Gunplay seems less clunky than MW.
-Maps seem better than MW, with more vibrant colours and the confirmation of at least a couple 3-lane maps.
-Control is back from BO4, a good inclusion.
-They touted some new mode called VIP Escort, it sounds exactly like the name.
-UI is a massive improvement over MW, cleaner with more colours to help important elements stand out.
-12 v 12 mode is back, with 5-point Dom being played currently.
-CDL name-dropped, hopefully they won't shaft pro players like Infinity Ward did. Pros got into the test (like my man Scumpii!) so they might actually keep their word this time.
-This is the biggest question mark right now, scorestreaks carry over from death. If you're on a streak and die, your points toward streaks aren't reset. All streaks are on cool down to prevent spam. This could be either okay or completely ruin pubs for anybody with any skill.
-Animations look phenomenal, as is to be expected.

From the gameplay streams:
-So far only two maps have been played, both look okay, if a little mediocre.
-Unless everyone is on PC, weapon model FOV seems to have been increased, models appear to take up less space on the screen.

All in all, it's promising, with a few things that could completely ruin it if not balanced correctly. I'm remaining cautiously optimistic, but I'm going to wait for the game to have been out for a while before deciding whether to buy.

I disagree, there are a ton of great Blops 1 style maps with Blops 1 weapons for Blops 3, WaW maps are a crapshoot though. I think Zombies YTer’s like Tim Hansen helps and hinders the map community for BlOps 3

Oh, I've only played WaW custom (played black ops 3 on console) so I suppose that colored my perception. That and seeing clickbait videos of ten thousand different gimmick maps like 1 window or whatever.

Edit to avoid doubleposting: what are you guys hoping to see in terms of storyline for new zombie maps? I definitely want this to be a reboot; I wouldn't mind seeing the old characters again at some point but they're very played out at this point.

I hope Zombies is actually fun and doesn't require Youtube on another screen. They should use whatever the power of the next gen hardware to add more zombies each wave.

It’s all good, Steam Workshop has revitalized the zombie map community to a large extent. They do need lower the price for entry though, so that way more people can get in on the fun.

I think they need a storyline that is more coherent and I don’t need to watch a YT video that is an hour long to explain the Black Ops Zombies storyline

At this point anything that doesn't involve alternate dimensions, timelines, and several alien species will be an improvement in the coherency department.

There needs to be a mix. Simple maps to please the people who mainly play other modes and just want variety, with complex ones to satisfy people like myself who primarily play call of duty for zombies.

They should make a zombies storyline that is fun and pulpy, something late 60s or early 70s. But regarding map design, I think that is the smart thing to do, considering I am more of a fan of the simple map design of kino der toten.

Maps look decent so far as they seem to not all be boring lane based shit but they seem to suffer from the same problem as almost all CoD maps post blops 2 where every area of the map has 40 different angles you can be killed from at any point in time with clutter everywhere.
E: Scorestreaks carrying over from death sounds awful, even with the cool down it will lead to like a minute straight of every match being a clusterfuck where you can't go outside of buildings. It'll be like those hacked MW2 lobbies with Domination on Rust and no respawn time.

It's just going to be another worthless CoD title added on to the pile of other worthless CoD titles that we never really needed (that being: everything after Modern Warfare 2).

It'll still sell a bazillion through UK sales alone though. It could be a two-hour video of Captain Price butt-flossing himself with the British flag, and it will still sell as long as it has "Call of Duty" on it.
