Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I don’t understand the Infinite Warfare love and the whole “it’s underrated” argument. I watched a campaign playthrough after hearing that and it looked painfully generic. Missions we’re forgetful, the designs were uninspired (the only unique designs I can think of is the SDF stuff, but other than that everything comes off as ‘hmmm, that looked cool in this IP let’s use it in here.’), the story seemed like a knockoff of the Expanse but managed to take the worst parts of it, the characters were hollow (except E3N, he’s the only good thing to come of it), the space jet missions looked really tedious, the side missions felt like they served no purpose whatsoever, the SDF felt like an uninspired enemy, and the weapon designs were all over the place (why are you using generic looking ballistic weapons and M1 Garands when you have railguns and laser weapons?). Other than the interesting mission settings (because you can’t really go wrong with space), E3N and some cool things with the SDF, there’s nothing that makes Infinite Warfare feel like I’m missing out on anything. Especially when I can just play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered through the Infinite Warfare disc and play a way more enjoyable and timeless game.

Evidently, it's the character development that makes IW's campaign "underappericated." I've never played it so I cannot say.

You shouldn't HAVE to chain a full game with ANOTHER game.

idk man i can play timesplitters 2 through homefront the revolution cause that was an easter egg included in the game
Did you have to pay extra for that easter egg?

Come on, even I know better than that.

It doesn't work that way for MWR and Infinite Warfare. You need to have the IW disc to enable the license to PLAY MWR. To obtain that license, you need the Deluxe Edition. $80 at launch. I know you can obtain MWR separately NOW, but it should not had been that way in the first place.

I'm late as fuck to this discussion but I do not care.

Gf got me mw2 for our ps4 since there was a sale and my god man that multiplayer is hilariously bad. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to allow one-shot snipers/rifles to go irons or red dots? It was bad enough back in the day in black ops 2 with the ballista but holy shit. Don't even get me started on getting laser-beamed by smgs from motherfuckers just spraying while seemingly not having to deal with recoil 25+ meters away, while my guns kick like a mule and sway like a stripper's hips. It's also pretty lame seeing tons of people running around with battle pass weapons and not ones they built/tuned themselves but I guess it makes it easy to mock paypigs in the text chat nobody uses. The maps in this are also really subpar and so absurd to the point it feels like this game is having an identity crisis on what it wants to be. To me it feels like if rainbow six and cod maps had a baby but it turns out they were siblings.

Then there's the technical state of the game on ps4, which sure I guess it's my fault for still sticking with an old console, but good grief that's also pretty funny. The amount of times textures just do not load and stay blurry is astronomically high if I join a game in progress, and then there are times where pieces of the map quite literally disappear, such as floors or walls, and thus grants me a form of wallhacks. The audio mixing is also pretty bad. I mean I know dead silence is in this game but sometimes I just cannot hear anybody's footsteps until I get murdered from behind and watch the killcam of Usain Bolt sprinting towards me with the loudest fucking Mr. X stomps audible only in the killcam.

The mtx goes without saying how frankly gross it is. Even just trying to scroll pass the battlepass it'll try to slap you with a "CONNECTING TO THE STORE" message every single time. If I remember I think even the first modern warfare reboot had a decent amount of unlockables via challenges. If those exist in this then I cannot find them because this game also possibly has the worst ui I've seen in a long time.

Yeah this thing is pretty bad. I gave it multiple chances and attempts over the course of a week and it's just still not good. It's a shame because I used to really love playing cod as my "turn off brain" game back then. *sigh*

I can name a handful of CoDs that released without any multiplayer:

Call of Duty (N-Gage)
Call of Duty 3 (Wii)
Call of Duty: WaW (Final Fronts; PS2)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

All I could think of.

Shit, at least the CoD DS games allowed multiplayer

I've been addicted to grinding CoD: WW2 lately. I cannot believe how it aged compared to its predecessors and successors.

Map packs are monetized, but supply drops can be earned through natural gameplay or enabling challenges. There's no skill based matchmaking, but many playlists are empty. Post launch weapons are locked through RNG supply drops, but CAN be unlocked without spending a dollar.

It's actually not a bad Call of Duty. Black Ops 4 was way worse.
