Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I miss it when Call of Duty overall had a theme and STUCK with it. Black Ops' customization with its 1960s esque settings tonally made sense with the covert ops storyline.
I heard that Black Ops was originally supossed to be set during the 1970s/1980s and they changed it to 1960s at the last second due to some contractual bullshit. Which explains every anachronism in the game being set from around that era.

I didn't know he played CoD. I thought he was a GTA/Rockstar content creator.
He's known for GTA, then branched out to other series. Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, other R* titles. I love his commentary and commitment to source material through his costumes.

A plague with older CoDs are with the aim assist breaking snipers. Somebody with a sniper and just look at you and boom, instant kill.

No clue if it's been posted yet, but on Xitter apparently footage of a canceled CoD game title "NX1" or "Future Warfare" was leaked. It was being developed by Neversoft and would've taken the place of Ghosts in the release cycle.
Some context was also given by Brian Bright.

Here's some gameplay from the campaign... Using the word "gameplay" loosely here as it's mostly just an extended set piece.

Here's some gameplay from the Multiplayer. The game I guess was heavily based on Modern Warfare 2 and features a tiny bit of gameplay from one of the futuristic weapons, which seems to be an energy DMR with a recharging feature and equipped with an MW2 ACOG sight. Another thing to note is the horrible "glitching" effect when taking damage, I don't know what the fuck is going on there.

A multiplayer map list was also shown off, a lot of them seem to have working titles or are carry overs from MW2 and CoD4.
(also lol at Bin Laden's Compound)

The post will be updated with more info or content if I come across it.
(Edited the post because of issues with uploading, let me know if the footage is fucked up.)
Very interesting leak. I guess futuristic COD has been on the table for a long time and IW wasn't a spur of the moment thing. This makes the decision to have 3 fucking jetpack games in a row, with every studio working on one at the same time, even more puzzling. Would have loved to see a gen 7 COD jetpack game back in the day, even if it was a carbon copy of MW2
There must be some kind of massive leak or some shit going on in the studios responsible for CoD, cuz some pictures from the cut Campaign and general concept art from Black Ops 4 have been leaked by the Xitter user @HeyImAlaix. As of posting he's stated that he'll be posting more, so the post may be updated with more pictures in the future if they actually feature anything interesting.
A concept image for the main menu of Black Ops 4. It looks like shit still as its still built for cursor navigation, but better than what we got in more modern CoD games.

Miscellaneous campaign gameplay screenshots, most notable things to point out are some of the reused assets from Black Ops 3 such as the KN-44 and the Mobile Armory.

Some interesting shots of minigames that would be in the game. When I think CoD, I don't imagine doing Bioshock puzzles.

Some concept images showing the menus for multiplayer. Nothing too interesting about the searching for match image, besides the fact that you can't look at your classes or anything else if it actually came to fruition. The more interesting pic has to be the Create a Class concept image, as it seems like the game would've taken a way more unique (and honestly shittier looking) class system than the Pick 10 that was used in the actual game. From what I can infer from the image is that you'd be able to take 3 guns with you, and all of the heroes would be split up into a weird Overwatch style occupation order. Strangely, there seems to be no perks.

Some context:
Black Ops 4 was originally going to take place further into the future than Black Ops 3, showing off a post-post apocalyptic world where two factions have completely taken over what was left of it. You would actually choose a faction you would play as from the start, and then depending on your choices during the story and what faction you were playing as, get different objectives and missions. There would be different endings and you would be able to play as/alongside multiplayer specialists. There would be co-op as well.
When the backlash against jetpack COD hit, Activision made them change the setting into a more modern day one, a prequel to Black Ops 3 but a sequel to Black Ops 2. The game would still utilize several elements from the previous draft, such as faction choosing and different objectives/outcomes as well as focus on multiplayer specialists in the story. What was added on was the ability to have another group of people join the opposing faction and try to complete the objectives before you, and the winning team would decide where the story was headed.
The way I understand it is this: You would have team 1 playing as mercs and team two as black ops, both two players each max. The mission would take place on a large map and would follow a typical format of a COD story mission, but much more open and riddled with objectives. The team that completed theirs would win, however the players could also go against each other to stop the other team from completing theirs. If a player was killed by another human player, that was that: They were done, either for the remainder of the mission or were eliminated from the player board entirely for the duration of campaign, I am not sure. Either way, this would have been amazing, however it got shitcanned by Activision for taking too long. Eventually, the story mode would be compromised of Spec Ops esque little missions using multiplayer specialists and co-op to at least give multiplayer maps some back story, that's where that rich woman from the tutorial mode came from. Eventually, that got shitcanned too and Activision decided to jump on the Battle Royale bandwagon instead and we got Black Ops 4 we know today, except even after release the game couldn't catch a break: Shortly after the first couple of seasons, the devs were forced to move on to Cold War as Sledgehammer dropped the ball, axing the content that was planned but not made yet and forcing a few interns to pick up where they left off until the obligated post game content period was over. Zombies was hit especially hard by this, the entire Chaos storyline was dropped and they rehashed old zombies map remakes as the mode's 10 year story conclusion, with an ending that felt more like something akin to the infamous "Congratulations" scene from NGE than the grand finale it was hyping up to be.

Anyways, I got a good video on this. The original channel was shut down by it's creator, probably because he trooned out or something. I will edit this post with an archive if it's uploaded in less than an hour:
Temporary file expires after 30 days, is there a good place where one can just upload a video of this size without an account?
Mediafire link, not sure if this one expires

File too big to properly archive here, it's the video that was made on the game's cut campaign

Infinity Ward was already working on Modern Warfare when Activision acquired them, and the terms of the acquisition specified that Activision could not give the Call of Duty name to another studio to develop a game set after 1972. The reason for this was that this is the year after which pretty much all the cool weapons technology in Modern Warfare starts to come online. Stuff like flat top AR pattern rifles, the diversity of NATO assault rifles, red dot sights, ACOGs, etc, all after then. So it ensured the modern era belonged to IW, while Vietnam and before could be farmed out, but those other studios would be pretty limited in terms of what kind of small arms tech could be featured.

The more credible rumor is that Acti took one look at how incredibly successful MW2 was and told Treyarch to find a way to clone MW2's system and set it in the legally prescribed time period.

I'm not holding my breath on this

Remember the end of CoD: Ghosts (hell, remember Ghosts period) where you ambush big bad Rorke in a train with ODIN, the train sinks underwater and you shoot him point blank with a .44 revolver? Credits roll and here comes Rorke that survives a shot to the chest to drag your brother into torture.

What makes less sense: Ghosts' ending, CoD: Vanguard or the nu-MW trilogy?

Laswell should've been an operator since MW19, even more annoying that she wasn't one in MW22. It's also annoying that her skin in all honesty is kind of shitty and lackluster, she looks like she's going mountain climbing, not some tactical operator.
laswell.jpg

It really sucks in my opinion, I've always thought she would be cool to have as an operator but they kind of fumbled it. Could've been worse.
Also thinking about it now I'm surprised CoD hasn't used her as some kind of gay pride icon since she's a dyke.

You have to buy the Battle Pass. She is unlocked as soon as you buy it along with Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead.

Her voice lines are kinda lame, so it's not really worth it.
Pay to play as an old lady that doesn't even LOOK that old. Oh well, if I wanted to, I'd just play CoD: WWII. If it'll nickel and dime me for maps, at least it didn't nickel and dime me for cosmetics and weaponry.
