Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Also, good point about how speed makes camouflage less relevant. Your eye's drawn to movement, and moving slowly and keeping still are now excoriated as playing wrong. You didn't mention this, but ahead of either MWII or MWIII, the devs said a "problem" they were fixing was how characters blended into the environment. So they had the exact opposite philosophy, wearing camo should give you no advantage over wearing hot pink, and if somebody's running around like a nut and gets shot by someone they didn't notice, it's a gameplay problem.
It's funny you say that: I had moments where I spotted somebody from a distance BECAUSE of their obnoxious skin. It actually defeats the purpose of camouflage.
In my very first MWII match, I ran into somebody who had some kind of effect that made me explode into hearts or pink cubes or something when I died. It was an incredible turnoff, and I completely lost interest in the series.
MWII is on Game Pass now. My first experience was something else. First match, my team is completely curb-stomped in Domination. There's no red dots on the minimap AFAIK, unless somebody uses UAV. I have to play more (and maybe compare it to MW2019 and MWIII for a frame of reference), but MWII feels "heavier" than how I expect Call of Duty to be. I don't know if it's the TTK, the sound quality, the FOV or even the recoil, but weapons and movement have weight to it. I like it so far.

Oh, and my weapon progress from MWIII using MWII weapons carried over to MWII. My unlocked weapons, camos and level progression were there waiting for me. That helped as I did not have much of a disadvantage with figuring out its convoluted level system.

Also, the weirdest skin I've seen isn't even Groot or some supernatural character, but Hutch looks and sounds like EDP. IYKYK, if not, here you go.

Reinstalled MW2019 to compare to MWII, MW2019's movement feels lighter compared to MWII. IW gave weight to movement and sprint from its predecessor, MW2019 feels like I'm sliding on ice or almost in zero gravity. Guns feel floaty aside from snipers.

Also, how is it that when I get my overall K/D above 1.0, my next five games have pinpoint accurate enemies spawning behind me, doing advanced movement tech, even to the point where I could barely leave my spawn? You're telling me my natural skill dropped tremendously from ONE MATCH? Same loadouts, same playlist, different players, inconsistent connection? I almost don't even WANT to look at my K/D anymore; there's no way I could build it back up anymore.

This is nothing new it is what we call Activisions own skill based matchmaking algorithms. When you start a game you get dumped into easy matches where you see the other players first, so you always get the first shot. After a few matches you get dumped in the sweat match with disadvantage, and you will take the ass whooping. Also they make sure to show you the skin and weapon from the guy that shoot your ass, to get you to buy their skin/weapons. After all Activision do hire psychologist to fry your brain until you cave and buy their seasonpass shit. COD today aint about the game, its all about milking your wallets.

Well, I'm still mad at myself for throwing myself in the meat grinder.

I know I'm not the greatest, but come on, it's purposely skewed against actual performance.

MWII has narm with its realism, specially its announcers. They sound like exaggerated accents. I don't mind, it sounds jarring.

It dont matter if you suck or are best ever in COD anymore. Activision have done this shit so normies and weekend dad players can feel they are the cream of the crop. Just keep to the old COD games, anything after MW2019 and Cold War is not worth it.

Plutonium + bots has been a lifesaver for whenever I had nothing else to do during my free time. It's incredible how something like BO1 multiplayer (even with Combat Training only) still holds up tremendously well to this day. I'd argue it has a better gameplay loop than many of the newer titles' multiplayer.

Activision? Rigging the game for some patented algorithm? Nonsense, wife's tales I tell you. You must be imagining things.

I apologize; I became uncharacteristically angry because of a video game's well known algorithm. And I don't like being angry over a inconsequential stat.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 reveals battle pass paywall for LTMs and exclusive rewards..

Some new information have dropped that got a lot of people raising their eyebrows. Activision and Treyarch are planning a big change to how the Battle Pass will work in Black Ops 7. And it could affect how players access certain content, including Limited-Time Modes (LTMs) and premium cosmetics.

Instead of LTMs being free for all players like they are now, Black Ops 7 may require you to own the Battle Pass to play them. These seasonal LTMs are said to be more “high value” than usual, with special gameplay mechanics and exclusive rewards.

On top of that, things like top-tier skins, crossover operators, and special loot will reportedly only be available to Battle Pass owners, replacing the Premium Event Track we currently see during mid-season updates like Reloaded.

This franchise is so milked, it need a reality check soon.

I thought paying $1 for a red dot sight from Black Ops 4 was egregiously greedy. Or adding microtransactions and DLC to the remaster of CoD 4. Now, they're considering siphoning game modes to a battle pass on top of an $80 admission fee.

This franchise is so milked, it need a reality check soon.

So, basically you're not going to have the full experience unless you pay Activision to allow you to endlessly treat Call of Duty like a job that YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR. Forget just the franchise, the entire gaming industry needs a reality check. We need another gaming crash.

Pretty much everything other than TDM, Dom and S&D is pretty dead months after launch, who the fuck is going to care about a flavor of the weekend gamemode that is going to get boring 3 matches in?
Also, Black Ops 7? Is Treyarch not allowed to make anything new? It got ridiculous with BO4, it's clear they wanted to make something new with BO3 and then work off of that, original beta builds of BO4 took place further into the future than BO3, not took place before it like final BO4 did.

MW2019 has the best sound design from any CoD to date. The menacing menu music, the sound indicators of deaths, menu buttons, radio chatter, announcer callouts, weapon contact, background noise from maps, directed voice acting, it's all great.

Seriously, I've never had more fun navigating the menus because of the sound effects.

The gun sounds were unlike anything else I had seen (heard) up until that point - for COD, at least. That shit was fucking awesome. This is when they started doing those more exaggerated tacticool animations as well, before it eventually got copied and adopted by everybody else in the industry which eventually made them tiring. Sad! It doesn't help that they also misused a couple of times, especially with Vanguard. That specific type of animation just doesn't fit at all with a game whose theme is supposed to be centered (or based) around WW2.

Ambience, that was the word I was looking for. Many maps have great ambience. Don't quote me on this, but I believe weapon fire can echo inside interiors. Again, I cannot get over how amazing the menu UI SFX is.

The crackling from the ping confirmation, I cannot get enough of that.

Nah, it makes us feel confused. I don't even know how good I am. I knew I was pretty good at BOII because I would consistently appear in the top 3 of any match and my W/L was well above 1 (I played Domination mainly and played to win, not for K/D). In the newer games, I have no idea. I know the tier above me is full of people who make me feel like a retard who doesn't know where to point his gun, and the tier below me is full of retards who don't know where to point their guns, and that's it. I would much prefer to have some meaningful sense of where I stand relative to others.

Somebody who works on COD finally played Battlefield 3.

If you ever watch Sam Hyde’s great war they reuse a lot of 2019s soundtrack

On the subject of sound design, BOII has the best headshot SFX indicator. That bullet would PIERCE your skull. Phoosh-DING! All the factions did great work with their battle chatter and announcer callouts. Mercs has to be my favorite because of the radio dismiss static after each quote.

MWII's Kortac announcer has a "narm charm" to it that I like. I'm not sure if it's Russian speaking English or somebody giving an exaggerated Russian accent, but it's so distinct, I cannot help but love it.

Also, the cha-ching effect after a confirmed kill is a nice touch.
