Feedback Can there be Autistic Thunderdome reform?

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
the main point of this feedback thread is to see if there's anyway there can be a spinoff for intellectual political discussion in addition to moving some threads around of political nature like the Elon Musk thread and the BlueSky thread.
If you want "intellectual discussion," participate in it. Deep Thoughts and Mass Debates most likely have threads on just about any subject you wish to discuss. If not, you are free to make the thread yourself. But if the response to your input is just autistic stickers and otherwise being ignored, accept that maybe your post wasn't as intelligent as you thought it was.

There is a political bias among the community (at least the politically engaged section of it) but that's going to be true of any community. Small majorities turn into strong majorities and those turn into overwhelming majorities as the minority view becomes less defensible within the community itself. That's just reality.
Show me one online community where there is genuine diversity of opinion. You won't.

Don't forget that each thread and also just areas of the site has their own cultural microcosm. You might be liked in some and hated in others. Unless you completely shit up a thread they can't stop you besides just neg rating you or calling you names. You will also only see users in very specific threads.

Prove it by getting Null to delete your comment and IP ban your account.
He literally banned any criticism of the female hate thread and the femcel subgroup populating this board. I suppose this place is "free-er" than reddit but it would be a lie to say that Josh didn't betray his promise of having a free speech forum.

The ThunderDome is a containment site for some of the most autistic and retarded posters on this site and possibly in this world.

If you want nuanced political discussions this is not the site for you. Yes this site does offer a nice range of freedoms that are missing in most other forums but you can find some sites who allow actual discussion.

At heart the Farms are a gossip site and the ThunderDome is no different, it's political shitposting at it's finest.

TLDR: Sorry Link the Princess your looking for is in another castle

If you want interesting discussion create an interesting thread faggot.

Otherwise you can find lots of interesting autistic discussion in the lolcow threads.

I'm not upset but I am disappointed that it is the main focus right now.

TL;DR I want more diversity, intellectual debate and interesting back and forwarths for politics and political discussion. I'm trying to stir up some interesting conversations about geopolitics and potential ramifications (which is different than Zelensky the person) but I keep getting autism stickered so...
1. Post boldly, not caring about le stickers.
2. Post whatever you find interesting (that is on-topic) in the US Politics thread, even if it isn't the current thing. Someone will probably appreciate it. Include archives.
3. Use different megathreads that are more focused and slower moving, or start a new thread for each news article to farm front page engagement.

people do not want thoughtful exchange.
I don't know about thoughtful exchange but I learn a lot (even in the US politics thread) and generally just ignore messages I know are retarded.

You just need to read and read and read more and more retarded messages in your lifetime and eventually you will be able to spot the ones with least value and skip them without effort. Generally when a thread is overcome with valueless messages there is a sort of reckoning or outflux or change in things but given it is about an always happening topic (politics in the US) there will just be ebbs and flows of quality khantent.

Some of the most informative and educational things I’ve ever learned have been in the comments section of news stories. Not on kiwi farms either.

I know this kind of feeling, but you haven't expressed it well at all. You need to figure out what's at the heart of it because it's facially ridiculous to be mad that a thread on US politics is talking about someone who had a televised failed meeting with the president which blew up negotiations to end a war in which the US is involved by massively supplying one side and sanctioning the other. If there's something you'd rather talk about, post about it, or make a mass debate thread, or if you think it's a big enough deal and you can put in the effort to convince anyone else, maybe it's a happening.

Also null's right, no one wants thoughtful exchange. Liberalism and tolerance are actually predicated on people having a really high level of shared values, or else people with guns have to force them to get along, as in large, diverse empires. That's why you get the siloing of discussions, when there's enough people present on both sides of an issue to argue it, they'd rather talk to their own side where the basic axioms are agreed upon and argument is known to be from a place of shared values and not some dirty trick. There are sites that prioritize getting people with differing views to debate productively, and they have to moderate heavily on tone (and the mods will be accused of bias in every possible direction); they also will not have seemingly popular and influential views represented, and there will be much hand-wringing about it, but the reason is that these popular viewpoints are predicated not on winning a debate, but winning irl and then suppressing dissent. So they'll get representation only of bad faith entryists, who are either rejected, or else the representation handwringers win out, and the entryists hollow out the site.

Btw, autistic isn't a negrate; even dislike isn't a negrate. You'll know you're over the target when the hats come out.

Well...if you want "serious political discussion" or more autism, you could try SomethingAwful or EDF.....

(ducks)

Move the stealth Beauty Parlor threads to Beauty Parlor. Instead of being mass reported to the mods because they don't like your posts. That might be a good start. Less headache for the mods anyway.
