Hey farmers, just bought Resident Evil 4 off the Steam winter sale and were wondering if I can play it with an Xbox controller? I already have a controller companion and wanted to ask you guys before I start fiddling with it. Do I just need to connect the controller to the controller companion and play?

Yes, it should work natively with any Xinput controller, like most recent PC games. I don't know what a controller companion is, but if it's some third-party program, you shouldn't ever need that unless you're trying to use a non-Xinput controller (i.e. Switch/PS4) with a game that only natively supports Xinput.

Its an app on steam that pretty much lets you link up any controller to you're pc.

The Steam version has full XInput support natively, (a benefit of old games being updated years later) so any controller that works on 360/XB1 should work without configuration or extra software. You'll need an adapter for wireless 360 controllers though, or bluetooth for XB1.
