I think that's been both overplayed and downplayed. Canadians like Englishmen, will be courteous in public even if they don't respect you personally. And I think there's value to that where we all behave in polite society.
The american style politeness, where it's fine to scorn a close one just for the sake of voicing your personal concerns to the community isn't necessarily better.
I mostly get that foreigners are not used to canadian (or british) norms of politeness.

Canada was great up until like 2010 or something. Less populated and plenty of land. It wasn't called the Great White North for nothing.

The problem truly lies with the Canadian Boomers who got into (everything) while the getting was good. They have houses they bought cheaply, they're retired somewhat comfortably and their neighborhoods are now astronomically priced making them paper rich. They can just ignore everything else.

Quebec is the most vocal against mass immigration and the cost of living issues. It's really just so unfortunate that the right-wing can't unite all because of French-English disputes.

I always thought Canada would be like a modern-day Norman England, if it wasn't for the Pajeets.

Norman England was when William the Conqueror from Normandy conquered Anglo-Saxon England in 1066, permanently fusing the French language and culture into English.

Canada's probably the 3rd iteration of an English-French union, the 2nd being the Angevin Empire (the union of England and France) in the 13th century.

This should all be native history to us Canadians but thanks for Canadian multiculturalism we completely destroyed any meaningful ancestral ties we had with England and France.

Now our national identity is just based on how many Third Worlders we can cram. It's both sad and disgusting.

Montreal is Liberal, the rest of Quebec is not.

Quebec City is actually a Conservative stronghold, while the rural areas are cultural nationalists Bloc/CAQ.

It's always been a disgrace that we lose right-wing votes to Bloc/CAQ all because of language disputes.

Canada today isn't a high trust society at all, our crime perception is high like France and Spain. Canadians are truly just so delusional. Maybe back in the 1990's Canada was high trust.

If you want a high trust society, you're looking at places like Japan, and Denmark. The rot of Canada is just so severe there's no fixing it, rather only salvage whatever good is left.
