I don't think there's a lot of support for joining the USA, but they're already a strong ally of Alberta, which was one of the smartest things Ralph Klein did as premier.Alberta has been footing the bill for Ottawa's schemes and social programs for the last 40 years or more. I totally get the sentiments. I guess we'll see. Do you figure Alberta would stay independent or would the US gobble it up as North Montana or something?
With most of the separatist sentiment coming from not wanting people elsewhere telling us how to live, joining another big country, even with the US constitution providing stronger rights to the states than Canadian provinces have under confederation, it would be trading one plantation for another to a lot of people. We have the resources to stand alone, so we don't really need either Canada or the USA to thrive.
