Got to talked to a very nice Ukrainian guy a year younger then me.
He’s had multiple friends die in the war, missiles flying overhead. You know the whole shebang.
He’s been here for two months. I made sure to give him the run down. Told him of the complete government control censorship in the main stream media. “Yeah that makes sense, I know a guy who was stabbed really close to where I live and heard nothing about it”
We talked for a while and went back and forth. It’s true that the outside perspective of North America is one of great strengths. Strong people, and an economy to rival giants.
It was really sad to see how much hope and optimism was in his heart, I had to drop a couple hard truths on him and he wasn’t even phased. With the corruption he alluded to in Ukraine, he didn’t seems to sad to hear about similar behaviour.
“so Trudeau, not good then?” Told him about his tyrannical dad, and the martial law that was enacted to prevent the FLQ from doing any more shenanigans.
I let him know how happy I am to have been born here, but that it’s also really sad to see it’s decline so quickly.
He was kind of blown away by the safe use policy I explained to him. “Are they actually giving out crack?” YEAH MAN isn’t it kind of crazy

“they give you an area to use?”
I kind of feel bad for having to do it to him, but if not even two months into moving and he noticed the media doesn’t report crime, and the police don’t even bother. I’m sure he’s ready.
He also asked my why it was so expensive for international students, told him about that issue as well LOL. He also asked me about the taxes being fucked HA.
Honestly I really couldn’t imagine someone doing that to me, it would fuck with my entire perception of the world. Being from Ukraine right now, he took it pretty well. We both had a good solid grasp that the war is just a fucking travesty being pushed by horrible motives.
I know this country could be so great, so prosperous. I want it to be the beacon the world believes we are.
