I'm in a weird situation where my values haven't changed a whole lot in my adult life, but over the last 20 years the Overton Window has shifted and I find myself on the right. A stance like "I don't care if you want to cut your dick off. It is none of my business" was a left wing view 20 years ago, but it puts you slightly right of centre now. In 2024, the progressive value active support is LGBT causes as opposed to just taking the view that other people should live their life how they see fit and it is none of your concern. Similarly, "Mass immigration hurts the working classes," "You should grow your own food if you can," "Big corporations should get the fuck out of politics," and "We should put local businesses first" would have been a left-wing viewpoints 20 years ago, but are now bizarrely right-wing ones. It think this is probably just what happens when you start to get old.
