It's with noting the pipelines carrying Alberta oil to Central Canada run through the United States to Sarnia via Lines 5 & 9. Cutting off oil exports could also potentially cut off Ontario and Quebec to Alberta oil. Energy East could have bypassed that, but Trudeau killed off because of those reasons and to appease Quebec.
There are a lot of incentives for Trump to bring Alberta and maybe SK and MB into America. It cements his legacy of Making America Great Again by restarting national pride and disrupting old and broken systems and bringing America back to it's expansionist roots. Plus Telus Medical might sweep the nation and force american hospital companies to lower their prices in order to survive. And Canada has lived it's entire existence as a barnacle on America, it's time to make it useful. And the entire acquisition would completely overwhelm the media and leave it with no capacity to go after little petty things.

Well isn't that the issue at play right now? The USA has actually voted for change and managed to get it jammed through despite the furious resistance of the establishment uniparty that is in many respects very similar to the one that exists in Canada. But unlike Canada, the USA has a far more flexible political system with hardened safeguards and distributed power structures that makes it difficult to corrupt from top to bottom. Which is what allowed for Trump and the MAGA movement to coopt the Republican party from the inside, and then use it as a bludgeon against the ruling establishment. An establishment that could do nothing against them because if they did they would break the legitimacy of the system they themselves relied on for their own position.
Fundamentally the entire Liberal party needs to be swept out of office so hard that they do a hard purge of the Ontario Liberal staffers (including Butts & Telford) from their party.

Its actually worse then that. Canada NEEDS friendly relations with the USA to maintain the integrity of its territory. The only way to travel from Ottawa to Vancouver is to cross into the USA and use the American Interstate Highway System. This was the catalyst of "The Honkening". Trudeau shutting down truckers ability to cross into the USA to deliver goods from one end of Canada to the other.
And it's literally Ontario's own fault. BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba were more then happy to build a straight four lane Highway 1 all the way across Canada, but once it came to Ontario they looked at the mountains and said "nah even a dirt road would be enough"
Well of course. Why should Ontario pay for a complicated and very expensive highway through the shield when the USA was willing to provide the same service for free using existing infrastructure.
You can go east to west without leaving the country. It's just the drive through Northern Ontario is awful. The country ends at Sudbury and it's wilderness until Winnipeg. I don't consider Thunder Bay to be civilization.
It was a bit worse then that on our side. Not necessarily the Windsor Bridge, but the Sweetgrass/Coutts crossing between Montana and Alberta. The Biden Administration wasn't just freaking out over the shut down of cross border trade. There was genuine concern of the US Prairie States like Montana going off the reservation and intervening in support. Biden was demanding Trudeau do something because the Canada issue was causing mutiny in his own country.
Canada's relationship with America is like Germany's with Austria.
american hospitals are expensive because their number is limited by certificates of need and another barriers to entry. as well as a thicket of regulations that prevent competition and exemption from anti-trust statutes.
