I see this a lot with people that are very out of touch. "Just move to a small town so things are cheaper!"

It doesn't include that rent prices are still very high, personally I've found grocery prices to be high because its monopolised by one market, if you don't have a car you're pretty much useless, you're stuck in the middle of bum fuck nowhere away from proper medical care, and jobs are still extremely limited moreso than in the city. Additionally, wages will be relatively lower compared to doing a similar job in a larger city. Surely its not an Australian-only issue, but there have been issues of backpackers and the very poor going out to work on remote plantations, and basically becoming indentured servants.

Pretty much all you end up with is a house not much cheaper than in the city with a far, far worse quality of life. It would be very nice to be able to move to a small town, but its literally not worth it atm if you have any dreams above survive, and even then the above factors make it difficult.

If you live in a major downtown city you don't think anything at all. If you're still living there it's because you're rent controlled and have no other options. Enjoy getting pushed onto the tracks because you can't save up to buy a decent automobile. I try to help out my last 2 friends who still live in this hellhole with their shopping and such because it's the right thing to do.

I wouldn't say big exactly however I lucked out that my parents moved before the great reset out to triad town as I've mentioned before. It's as peaceful as it gets. The only actual peaceful area in the country is the small Toronto Island community.

Tit for tat tariffs seems like a bad idea but I could think of some alternatives:

1. A moratorium on imports of certain luxury goods
2. A ban on exports of something that would have immediate impact, like Uranium or medical radioisotopes
3. Some regulatory maneuver to prevent the flow of US ships & barges into the St Lawrence (would make ports on the great lakes unusable).
