These people cannot be saved.
Because they do not want to be saved. One of the unfortunate results of the post-national state forced on us is that without a core identity, people's opinions and values are malleable to what the ruling class desires in a particular moment. That is why it didn't matter that Justin Trudeau was woefully inadequate for the job because of his lack of credentials in 2015, but now credentials are everything in 2025 so the only choice to them Carney. It is classic Orwellian doublethink, but more insidious as the prevailing ethos of the left and so-called "center" in Canada is "I have what I want and fuck everyone else." To be saved is to admit that everything that we believed about our nation in the last decade is built on a foundation of lies and unchecked egotism. Too many Canadians (especially the midwits the Liberal Party attracts) lack the emotional fortitude to confront the existential horror of their folly and capacity to be self-critical. Best to double down on the mindless slogans, even the social fabric that once bound this nation together unravels.
On a more personal note, I noticed that the left had steadily grown more unhinged since Harper won his first minority. It was subtle at first; the Liberals had held themselves up as the natural governing party and the NDP viewed themselves as the conscience of Parliament. Harper's ascension was supposed to be a historical aberration. 2008 arrives and Harper wins a second minority. The three opposition parties attempted to wrest power from him by attempting to form a coalition with the tacit approval of the media. Harper thwarted that by proroguing Parliament, which utterly broke the minds of the left. It got worse after the electorate gave Harper a majority in 2011. Everything became a scandal no matter how insignificant with the left incessantly yapping about how evil and corrupt Harper was yet Trudeau was everything they accused him of and much worse.
2019 was another turning point after the SNC-Lavalin Scandal. Something like that would have sunk previous governments, but voters "punished" Trudeau by reducing him to a minority. He later leveraged COVID-19 to give himself near-absolute power since the leftist NDP would sign off on it as long as they portray themselves as champions of the workers and the Bloc could be bought. Then he used to to polarize the populace to turn friends, neighbors, and family against each other for political gain. The 2021 federal election came and went with similar results to 2019, but the NDP sold the party's soul to pretend that they held the balance of power when they entered into a supply-and-confidence agreement with the Liberals. Jagmeet Singh refused to whatever leverage he had on Trudeau. Even as the Liberals could not go through a single week without going through another scandal. He had every opportunity to throw Justin under the bus, but chose not to and destroyed his party's credibility in the process.
The last decade has revealed how nihilistic the Canadian establishment and its apologists truly are. Their "values" change depending on whatever gives them instant gratification in that moment. That is why there is no accountability, no checks and balances, or anything to protect the masses from their endless power lust. All they care about is expanding their own wealth or holding onto whatever comforts they have, even at the expense of others. If I had to compare the Canadian political and cultural establishment to one character (Odin help me), it would be Dolores Umbridge from the
Harry Potter novels. Sure, they put up a saccharine image of agreeability, but it is a facade for their utter greed, corruption, and cruelty. What is even more chilling that they are completely psychotic and successfully gaslit themselves into believing that they are the world's conscience. Make no mistake. Canada is a textbook case of the banality of evil and the world would only benefit from us as a cautionary tale of unchecked power and ego.
