Normally I might agree with you (especially when it comes to Hollywood's 'failing upward' hiring practices) but in some cases, I'm all for second chances if they learn from their mistakes. Danielle Smith is officially "against" separating too even though she just knocked down significant obstacles to set it off, because legally it needs to be a civilian initiative. Separation is a process that is going to extend long beyond Pierre regardless of if he eventually becomes PM or not. There's been very promising initial steps that have been made very quickly since the election, but there isn't even a legitimate party structure established yet and building support to a degree that will make a 50+1 referendum result viable is going to take time - though if Carney is anything as promised he won't be doing much to dissuade separatist sentiments. But even then a win can only force provincial-national negotiations which could take years in themselves, or fall apart.

I also wouldn't anticipate jumping straight into becoming a state, I imagine it would look something more like how Texas had a transitional period as a sovereign nation before eventually merging into the union. I see a lot of YT vids from Americans acting like this is some kind of imminent civil crisis, but if it's going to be done with a realistic chance of success it's going to be a much slower process, potentially a generational one.
