We'd be in better shape if they wanted our resources. Instead they want to use us as an experiment for their policies. Gerald Butts, Trudeau's best friend and former Cheif of Staff and former Chief of Staff to McGuinty and Wynne. Would go to other orgs/think tanks and offer to implement whatever policy they wanted as long as they helped the people he was working for get elected. Trudeau and Wynne were dumb enough to let Butts run things.

Look at where he is at now, working for the same people who want to flood Canada with jeets.

I was learning about the Hungarian elections that's happening today, and the former ruling party Fidesz is basically the Canadian liberals but right wing: Pro-China, caters to boomers, Controls the media in the country, election system favours them over every other party, etc. They even heavily lie about their political opponent, in Hungary they claimed the opposition party Tisza and their leader Peter Magyar (literally means Peter Hungarian) wanted to bring mass immigration, when it's the opposite (Magyar literally made comments about Filipino workers eating ducks and gold fish lmao), especially since he isn't a BRICS shill like Orban.

The main difference between us and Hungary is that Hungarians voted for change, and Tisza even got a 2/3 majority in the lower house to reverse Orban's laws that favoured his party (votes are still coming in as of writing this). Even Hungarian left wingers, despite having to vote for the also right wing Peter Magyar, at least understood that a slight chance for change under Tisza is better than the guaranteed zero chance for change under Fidesz. To be fair, hungarians are a rebellious people, while Canadians simply aren't.

Edit: I just found out Fidesz lost percentage wise in EVERY county lmao. This is what 2025 Canadian elections should've looked like:

Did anyone hear about the student protests in Ontario and what the police did to them? The police was trying to strangle them, choking them out and beating them in the face with a skateboard. Others were being dragged. And these protesters weren't resisting either. They were actually running away from the police on the other direction.

That's unbelievable police brutality for a benign protest of a small provincial issue. Canary in the coal mine for what's to come. They did it to the people at the trucker protest too but this seemed to be an escalation.

Oh, I am aware of the brain drain. It's made even worse as the two post-grad degrees that can't go to the states are Lawyer and teacher. Imagine a nation run by the Rekeita's of the world, with support from every bitchy teacher you've ever met.

However, if we got back into the extractives business. We would have a place to put all those mining engineers and petroleum engineers that wasn't literally anywhere but Canada. We would then have the capital to develop tech and employ all those software engineers that leave for greener pastures.

Looks like the Chugs won the court case. Signatures on the independence petition halted. No Alberta, you don't get to vote like Quebec did (twice), because you are a lower class of citizen with rights subordinate to 5% of your population. Too bad.

If it wasn't sad it would be funny how many cucked whiteies lost their shit about Alberta wanting to leave Canada. Meanwhile that's effectively the exact same thing all the Indians are doing (they can stop you from using any of their land and take your shit, have their own government, own police, own laws, full veto power over anything, can shut down anything or charge for access) yet with the added benefit of still getting unlimited (taxpayer) handouts, protection by the laws (they're exempt from) so you can't just go raid them, better access than you to all your healthcare/public anything. But yet that's based, actually...

Stay Free Alberta is still allowed to collect signatures, but the court has prevented the Chief Electoral Officer from counting them. However, SFA has anticipated this and has hired an outside accounting firm to independently tally the signatures and present them to premier herself who has the power call a referendum under the Referendum Act, I believe. The rub is that the Supreme Court of Canada could strike it down as unconstitutional, and the provincial government could not use the notwithstanding clause as they could cite Section 35 of the charter (the Numbered Treaties), which are exempt. I am sure there would be ways for the province to fuck with Ottawa, and frankly, it's past time to escalate this unity crisis to full-on constitutional crisis.

Here is the thing. One interpretation of Section 1 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is that you don't have real, natural rights; they are privileges that Ottawa can revoke via judicial review (or make up new rights through interpretation). The Trudeau government appointed seven of the nine Supreme Court justices, and the Ministry of Justice appoints judges (as opposed to how local and state judges are elected in the United States) at all levels. One could question their objectivity as their appointments come from a government who want to preserve the status quo at all costs. Since the 7 provinces/50% of the population formula makes amending the constitution all but impossible (Ontario and Quebec have the most to lose), the Liberal Party of Canada depends on the SCC to legislate from the bench. If the SCC suddenly has a legitimacy problem? That's when things get interesting.

Nothing would make me happier than to see the threat of Alberta and Quebec secession put the fear of god in Ottawa. (Unlikely, but a man can dream.) Let's look at it this way, Canada has been putting off this reckoning and even the Chugs have overplayed their hand time and again. They may claim to be sovereign, but they take taxpayer money (a significant portion of it coming from Alberta), they use the settlers' infrastructure, technology,, and "colonial" institutions they despise whenever it suits them. That effectively makes them subordinate vassals afraid of losing their "tribute" so they have a vested interest in doing what their masters in Ottawa tell them to do. Hell, it would not surprise me if all of these chiefs ruled their reserves like medieval fiefdoms while the feds turn a blind eye.

TL;DL I would love to see this become a pyrrhic victory that ends up in the fragmentation of Canada anyway.

The natives didn't win the case, the judge wanted time to review the law and ordered a 30 day stay where the petitioners can't submit the signatures, but can still collect signatures. Since the original plan is to finish collecting signatures on May 2 that's only about a two week delay. If the judge is corrupt and evil he might block it entirely and then backup plans and appeals take place, otherwise legally the petition is still within the right and the judge might rescind his stay early.

The lawsuit is that the petitioners didn't consult the natives, which is moot as the signature collection isn't at the stage where Aboriginal consultation is necessary or binding. But I don't expect them to know that since they literally went to King Charles in the UK and demanded he stop the petition.

Already brought up in this thread but it's not technically a loss, only a stop. While bullshit regardless it shows even the courts are hesitant to actually kill the petition off because A: doing so means stopping Quebec's grift (and cannot ever allow that); and B: any judge doing so is being set up as the scapegoat for UCP electioneering and screw tightening - and judges absolutely loathe being made the centre of attention, let alone giving conservatives a win in any capacity. Plus as even the Reddit crowd has honed in on a victory for the chugs here simply means a stronger independence case going forward - I fully expect the court to let this petition go forward because not doing so yields Eby-level of problems which unlike that lukewarm chucklefuck Smith isn't about to ignore given the political opportunity.
