The few times I buy candles are Bath and Body Works on sale. Marshmallow Fireside is my best bitch, especially on rainy nights. I've had pretty rotten luck with Yankee Candle.

Fuck yeah wax melts - I like the ones from Athame and Alchemy. I'm using their Balthazar wax melt right now.

I don't use candles because I'm a bit forgetful, so I'd rather not set my apartment on fire. I'm okay with incense, though.

So hear me out, what if for like gag gifts, you sold badly scented candles? You know like barf or something?

I mean, didn't Gwyneth Paltrow make a vagina scented candle? That certainly couldn't have smelled good... Also, I remember there being candles with manly scents like fresh cut grass called Mandles or something.

How do people have candles and something nice smelling when they have cats? I am always too afraid they are going to knock the candles down and start a fire or something. Also, just like someone mentioned essential oils are bad for dogs, they are also bad for cats too.

I believe the vagina candle technically smelled like flowers. Because pussy smells like flowers!, gaiz! I did hear about at least one of those candles exploding, which is another reason I don't go for candles very often.

I once saw the infamous Yankee Candle Man Town candle in the wild. I regret not sniffing it. Fresh cut grass is a legit smell, however, if you like fresh scents.

I know some people in wax groups that just do wax melts so that if the cat knocks over or whacks their tail into the warmer, they don't burn their house down. The rare times that I use a diffuser I use lavender and peppermint essential oils since they're safer for my dog. (I'm also basic and like those scents, so fine with me. I don't use essential oils for "healing" or that other woo shit.) I don't know which ones are okay for cats, but I'm sure there are owners that don't give a shit.

I do also know people that have their warmers on all the time. Like literally 24/7. That is excessive and dangerous to me. I used to have my warmer on for a few hours at a time but now I'll have it on for an hour or two and turn off so I'm not worrying about leaving it on all night and while I'm at work. I should probably get a warmer with a timer, hmm.
 
Yankees are GOATs, and I won’t turn down a B&B candle. Some B&B scents smell a little too synthetic though, not to mention the price tag. I’ve been thinking about giving Etsy candles a whirl, does anyone know some reliable quality shops?
 
I have a few scented candles I like to place around for a pleasant smell in some rooms I spend a lot of time in.

I don't know if many people do this but I prefer to not burn them until the scent is almost gone. Not sure why, I feel like they smell better when not lit?
 
I'm too scared to light candles in my house. I'm afraid my house will catch fire, even if I'm in the room and nothing is happening, I'm paranoid somehow the house is going to spontaneously catch fire.

I also have a cat now, so that's even more of a no-go.

I use wax melts, which isn't as pretty as candles, but at least my house can still smell like yummy bakery when the mood strikes.
 
I started buying from Goose Creek after getting thousands of ads for them. So far I think they are comparable to Yankee Candle. They have really nice room sprays too
 
What do you think of incense sticks? I personally love sandalwood. If you're afraid that candles would be a fire hazard in your house, try incense. They don't set shit on fire (not that I know) and they're kitty-proofed.

It has a lower risk but it can still set stuff on fire.

Incense sticks are another scented product I prefer to just place a bunch of in a space I need scented without ever lighting it.

Also I feel the sticks are more durable than the incense pellets, I once got some that simply started to melt with the temperature of the air on a hot day.

I never tried the pellets before. They're supposed to last longer than sticks but I don't know. I used incense oil some years ago (you don't light it directly but you need fire anyway) and I prefer it to the sticks, but it's more expensive.
 
Oh I didn’t know there was a candle thread lol.
I have a thing for yankee candle jar candles and I’m very specific about trimming the wicks before every burning and only lighting them when they can melt all the way across so the wax doesn’t tunnel down.
The seasonal scents are out right now so I recently picked up Spiced Pumpkin, Sparkling Cinnamon, Christmas Cookie, and Balsam and Cedar.
Spiced pumpkin smells like generic Halloween but not in a bad way, much sweeter than spicy.
Sparkling cinnamon obviously smells like cinnamon, but it’s not harsh to the nose and is still a sweeter lighter scent considering it’s cinnamon.
Christmas cookie is one of my favorites because it smells like a frosted cupcake but not sickeningly so.
And balsam and cedar is a nice neutral green and woody scent for when I don’t want to make Mr VBO smell like a cupcake.

I like candles. Traditional lightning implement, practical and cozy feeling. Also they are natural, and are easy and cheap to come by, especially if you yourself know how to make them.

Wow they have so many unique scents, I would like to try them. Unfortunately I can only buy my incense from local stores and hippies on the street.
The upside is most of the incense sold here is from India, so it's usually has a decent quality

The only problem I have with insense is that they can sometimes be a PITA to clean. If you ever get one of those sticks that is a little flimsy, the entire insense might hit the holder and burn unevenly or hit your desk and now you have ashes everywhere. The sticks I've bought before also usually had super light ashes. Even when I was really dainty, I would find ashes in places you would think they wouldn't be years later when I moved.

Is it a bit early to swap out my warmer to Christmas-y stuff? It's been one of those years and I'm about to flip on the Christmas music honestly. I have some general pine, mint, pumpkin, apple cinnimon, and *checks notes* the smell of fleece and flannel, but it smells like fresh linen. I like to swap my warmer out with the seasons. So does anyone have other suggestions for "wintery" smells?
