Why I do think that there's something else that causes these Rube Goldberg engines to implode though?
They are Nissans, after all. Not gonna lie, I'm currently house shopping and I absolutely rule out entire neighborhoods if the Nissan to home ratio is too high. Same for Dodges and Ram pickups. It'd be all Mopar cars if Jeep owners weren't Just bad at math.

Mazda sells rotary engines again with the MX-30 and no one talks about it lmao
I actually missed this post, but really, the reason I'm not talking about any recent rotary news is that I don't care. Mazda will never top the FD, and I already have an FD, so why would I care? Only a true rotard would care that they might bring the wankel back as a hybrid range extender in yet another terminally uninteresting CUV.

I doubt they'll make the sports car they keep talking about too, it looks like one of those paint sample things that you can get to help visualize how a paint type will look on a car.

I just got an MX-5 delivered it's loaded with all this driver aid shit, it does a constant beeping as soon as you go 1 miles an hour over the speed limit, it doesn't shut up after a while, it's constant.
It's supposed to be a sports car ffs.

You can turn the audio warnings off but they turn back on every restart.

Are you sure it’s not the shitty speed warning on the gauge cluster ?
You reset it by pressing some code into the trip button but I can’t remember right now. Mine is set to 150mph

Driving a new car today vs. 10 years ago

2015:

Get in
Start engine
Drive

2025::

Get in
Start engine
Turn off auto start/stop
Turn off eco mode
Turn off lane assist
Turn off steering correction
Turn off speed limit warning
Confirm “Are you sure you want to disable XYZ?”
Swipe away 3 notifications
Dismiss infotainment tutorial
Wait for Bluetooth to connect
Hope wireless CarPlay doesn’t crash
Start driving
Seat vibrates because you changed lanes without signaling
Steering wheel fights you because the road curves gently
Get beeped at for getting close to anything
Try to park — camera glitches
Get out and car tells you you forgot your phone

Nahhh we‘re just young boomers romanticizing the past even though the future is much, MUCH better bro

Just went through a few car sites today. So much SUV shite. It actually made me angry.

Anyway. Some saloons from a better age:

Now that's interesting, thanks for that info. Where would I start to look for that?

I feel this in my soul. That said, I'm glad that I'm missing out on a lot of that shit in the truck since I deliberately opted for a top trim/no options version. The auto stop/start is annoying to have to kill each start, though at least the driver assist shit can be turned off permanently.

Noticed my car randomly running slightly rough at idle and shuddering when you let the clutch out at idle. Hooked up OBD scanner - short term fuel trim 25% all the time.

Interdasting. Spray carb cleaner at all the various hoses and connections - nothing really makes a difference. Unhook the PCV hoses that go to the valve cover, put them back on. Fuel trim now hovers at 8-14% at idle and car no longer judders.

I think I still have a slight air leak around the valve cover, because when I plug one hose and blow into the other one (when they're hooked up to the valve cover) I can feel the pressure escaping slightly and hear it, but I can't tell where exactly it's going.

Time for a sprayer filled with soapy water.

If you're a vapist, do a fat rip then blow into the hose. Otherwise, it's not hard to build a smoke tester that operates on vape principles and it's a useful tool for diagnosing cars that are prone to vacuum issues.

A Jag XJ Coupe with a Chevy 350 swap came up on Bring a Trailer a while back and I should have fucking bid on it.
Wouldn't that still have electrical issues as they were known for bad body grounds like Rovers were? Or is that just an old Leyland problem.

Sounds like you're due for a catch can mod during the pcv hose service.

Mazda revealed the new CX-5 this week, and decided to go literally full-on Chinese car interior by ditching their rotary knob for a GIANT ASS SCREEN with minimal physical controls:

View attachment 7637717

And with Toyota and Lexus doing the same for the new RAV4 and ES respectively, are all automakers going to go with the same SHITTY ASS FUCK CHINESE MINIMALIST INTERIORS WITH GIANT ASS SCREAMS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO BREAK AND CAUSE MORE DISTRACTIONS FOR DRIVERS?

Thanks a fucking lot Elmo.

Same energy.

The real reason might actually be a sign of an ongoing recession.

Historically, automakers have taken more risks and gotten more creative when the economy was strong — at least for them.

But when times got tough, the designs got safer, more conservative, more… samey.

Now imagine this: the world tells automakers that electric is the future. So they double down.
They build new factories, lay off legacy workers, kill off entire combustion model lines — all to chase the EV dream.

And after all that?
Only for EVs to reach a glorious 4% global market share.

They spent billions chasing a pipe dream.
And now they’re scrambling to pivot back — only this time, under even stricter environmental regulations.

Worse yet, developing new combustion models isn’t fast. It takes years.
So they’re stuck in limbo, bleeding cash, with no ability to predict the future moving forward.

(Insert doesn‘t work. You have to watch it on YouTube)

I am referencing this very good video about car design over the last few decades.
It explains why the things are how they are right now.

And they'll get swamped by the many Chinese car brands that are making shitty ass low-effort EVs to the point of needing to dump them on other countries. And even Chinese car companies are also dropping like flies.

There's plenty of things to not like Elon for but I think doing the minimal-maxing shit on car interiors was the absolute worst thing he's brought to the industry. Just so everyone else can go ahead and cut more corners while somehow saving money with cheap IKEA looking junk.
