Now that I'm neck-deep into a project I'd like to just say, I don't think I'll ever mod any newer car again for a long time. Working on old cars and shitboxes feels more rewarding and is cheaper.

Getting streetable high performance in a modern vehicle costs way too fucking much in parts, and in labor for the things I don't trust myself to do.

I just want to wrench on shit for God's sake.
If you want to do that on a modern car, Miatas are always out there. NCs are surprisingly inexpensive and the aftermarket for all things MX5 is still bonkers.

I don't think there's anything that could get me to touch that platform. I know people LS swap them but there's nothing I can do to a Miata that would make me like it. Just not a sexy car to me.

Honda's L motors are trash. Even the old D series are thicker and better.
L motors are useless for tuning, but are perfectly cromulent as an economical daily. I don't hear of too many Honda Fits shitting the bed prematurely, assuming the oil is changed regularly. Something about the right tool for the job comes to mind.

The newer Audi wagons look nice tbh. The United states gets cucked on wagons since we’re basically SUV/crossover central. Bmw already discontinued the 3 series wagon

What's the deal with people putting mufflers that sound like shit on their cars lately? Seems pretty histrionic if you ask me.

The Autozone special has been a joke since forever now. Usually done by vatos on their slammed civic dx or accord.

When I saw a civic with rotating green LEDs and an afterfiring screaming muffler it reminded me of Amos Yee going "look at me look at me!!" What's crazy though is, down here, there's a looot of old folks doing it too. All around police departments and shit, and the police don't seem to be responding to criticism of it, that neighborhoods aren't the Daytona 500 speedway, but places where babies sleep at random times throughout the day, children rest up for school, oldies lay their backs down after a long life of working. But you got all these New Yorkers and Californians coming here, pushing native people out with their cacophony, and the land gets bought up and sold as rentals, ensuring nobody ever has any long-term discourse with their local politics. Gated communities, all-the-while, protected, and now dominating the sectors being forced into indigencey.

Youknow I used to be kindof socialist, in-so-far as I knew absolutely that the finest things in life are things money can't buy: love, friendship, respect, decency. Now I recognize that there's a fine balance everything abides by, that your water, food, entertainment, and even property, is all subject to being flooded with bullshit to destroy it. That protect and serve, that politics, that fraternity, is all subject to subversion at the hands of sadists. That they'll delight in making your daughters masochistic rape-thralls, that they'll institutionalize your sons so they can never stop and think and become puppeteered dope-zombies. That it will always come from the thing you thought was good, that was flipped on it's head in an instant by sell-outs looking to flee from long term responsibilities.

Now I feel myself getting more violently libertarian as time goes on, that there is no option to balance and protect, to serve growth without selling your own foundation out, that anything founded in service to institutions like banks, as Jackson opined, are founded in sin and short-term gain. That the only thing that can uplift is the grit between your fingers and the sweat of your brow, not interpol welfare states giving you a tiny cut of what you pay in just to say they're actually representing you. But they're not, and as I've stood up against it, I've put my own freedom in jeopardy, because the police are there to protect and serve THEIR politics, not ours and definitely not yours, but their own highly political sheriffs' buddies around the nation. We're just rungs in the ladder, and our engineering is getting more and more toy-like and obsolete as this paradigm continues to foment itself.

Remember frens, friends don't let friends become useful idiots for the banks and their corporate circles. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Got this random truck video in my recommended
And it reminds me that we never got crew cab small trucks in the states until the early 2000s. Meanwhile even Mexico have had 4 door Nissan pickups and rangers for a while now.

I wonder why we never got crew cab small trucks earlier in the states. I would’ve loved a 4door 90’s Toyota pickup

Small trucks, while pretty cool in my opinion, don't bring in the bucks like the half-ton trucks. The maverick is a beautiful anomaly

That is true, speaking of small trucks. The Mitsubishi Triton is supposedly coming to the states.

it’s a 2019 article god damn it, but Mitsubishi has been talking recently about wanting to enter the US truck market again, but they don’t have any US factories which will be difficult since the chicken tax still exists.

The chicken tax is a bullshit law to be honest

We must protect our local mutli-billion doller manufacturers from any competition
I would be driving in a Volkswagen amarok or a Mitsubishi l200 right now if it weren’t for those fucks, IM LITERALLY MAD AT THE INTERNET

Is having a 2wd truck/suv bad?
It's preferable if you don't think you'll ever need 4WD. Cheaper, better fuel economy, fewer parts to service, usually better ride quality and handling. If you are going to go off road, drive in snow, or pull a boat trailer up a ramp, 4WD is preferable. The only reason I own a 4WD is because of my semi-rural lifestyle. It's good to have something that can off-road if needed or pull a downed tree out of the road.

Me? Maybe. Only tangentially though.

Too bad Audi completely fucked up their most recent styling refresh. The RS3 is particularly bad.

It has always been a thing. Straight piped or glasspacked shitboxes were common in the old days, then in the 90s fart cannon equipped imports in the were more common. Straight piped or glasspacked sixes and eights sound just as bad. I don't prefer the sound of an obnoxious straight piped S550 Mustang to a fart cannon civic from the 2000s, both are obnoxious trash. Just like with sound systems, low IQ people think louder = gooder. People with taste realize that cutting the harsh tones and rasp with quality mufflers and well designed exhaust systems leads to a higher quality sound.

Anyone have experience going to radwood? I'm not a huge 90s car enthusiast but I have a rare top trim convertible with no miles I want to get rid of. I bought it as a car to flip but now it's unfortunately my daily

I'm curious too. I've never been since there hasn't been one close to me but I've had people at car shows say I should take the notable 80s and 90s cars I own, one of which is bone stock and thus very rare through attrition.
