I remember seeing a film about the party conference from Dankula where he made a comment as much that it was an older party, and anything that could appeal to a younger disenfranchised voting class would be good for the party.
I still say its a miscalculation given the fact that young people in general are unlikely to be conservatives. It is a complete misunderstanding of the demographic. While I hate UKIP and would love to see them go down in flames If i had to lead them i would say it would have made far more sense to tap the conservative party's base for voters rather than attempt to tap into the unreliable and tempestuous bloc of young people.
Conservatives are always going to be older and UKIP is a party with a conservative ideology. They should have stayed in their lane.
A smear it has rightfully earnedA lot of the senior party members weren't keen on bringing in the youtube trio, partly for the reason above, and also because the party has fought tooth and nail to distance itself from "racists or crack pots" party smear that it's been attacked with.
and one they do nothing to expunge themselves of by bringing in Carl "you are acting like a bunch of niggers" Benjamin and Paul "There is no such thing as depression" Watson
You run into this problem all the time in politics but especially in smaller fringe parties, where you aren't going to get the best people for the job, you have to make do with what you have available, and the people who actually want the job.
The best that UKIP always had to offer is assembled from the rejects of the Conservative party. So any opportunity to bring fresh blood into a dead party, and maybe get some new voters or party members in is a good thing.
But this is what doesnt make any sense to me. We know that there was a lot of resistance to Carl from within party officialdom, as shown by mauritianstruggle. Surely there was someone else who could have replaced Carl. If not for Battens influence Carl would not have been allowed into the party, especially after the numerous gaffes he has made since joining (suitgate, only joining to trigger the libs, various hitpieces etc)
Are we to assume that Carl had lobbied Batten for this position in the party? If so what does that make of the whole "I dont want to do this?" thing he still drags out.
Why has batten allowed him this level of undue influence within the party? Why has he allowed Carl and PJW and Meechan to ride roughshod over the rest of the party membership just so they could have their weird little LARP at playing politics.
