"risk turning into wendigos"
What, do they WANT to eat people? Last I checked wendigos are like evil fucking emaciated looking cannibal people in the actual folklore that initially gave into the desperate urge of hunger during a famine, and not like the general "big deer monster man" that somehow every native american folklore evil person has been redefined as in the last few decades for some reason.
No, I'm aware what actual wendigo are, but in the lore that I mentioned above (I gave a link as well, there's a whole video) if you break your taboo it also starts you down that same road of turning away from humanity and becoming a monster. It's not solely cannibalism based. In this case, the girls fight evil spirits and people who have become wendigos, and they have taboos that relate to the spirit animal they're given. If they break their taboos, they get that spirit sickness and risk becoming wendigos themselves because they've essentially dehumanized themselves/disrespected their spirit animals. It's like how in madoka the girls have to cleanse their soul gems or they risk becoming a witch, none of them WANT to be witches and kill people, it's just part of the deal with their powers.

Anyway as far as character design goes, I was trying to look up references from actual Beaver tribe clothes/makeup but it's pretty sparse. I always have such a hard time finding specific tribal inspiration because there's just not much left of so many tribes. I did find some cool moccasin boots and some dancers that I think are from the same tribe (or tribal group anyway.) I tried to come up with something real quick, but I think this is something I'd need to take more time on. I spent like 20 minutes drawing/coloring this.

I read that the Beaver men often wore buffalo fur caps and horns instead of feathers, they all had long braids, and I wanted to incorporate something like the moccasins I saw and the arm guards from the dancer on the far left in the pics below, but idk. I think I need to devote more time to actually trying, because this quick concept isn't my best work. I do like the long tunic-style top and the leggings though, and I think I'm on the right track with there being some earth tones. Maybe a brown base color like how natives often wore animal hides since that was plentiful in the Americas.

I like using AI for funsies, but it's definitely for inspiration/idedas, not final designs. I got some cute results though:

Maybe I'm still wokebrained, I WANT to be respectful even though I'd have to make up a tribe by virtue of magic not existing irl anyway, so I don't want to go for feathers and war bonnets and shit, but I feel like that's gonna be a really easy visual shorthand...gaaaahhhh

Here's some art I found that's also pretty cool:

This is the artist's Navajo design, but she has some other neat ones, too.

Look out, boys, she's going for the border!

Also Lavi/Ravi Himuro from Magia Record has a design that's a little controversial. It's cute, but it's also kind of a weird mashup and it doesn't make sense for her to have a boomerang or a doppel that's based on Aztec art.

Not to further derail stuff but that not-injun not-abbo not-aztec magical girl is awesome.

so I don't want to go for feathers and war bonnets and shit
It's not woke to want to have something be consistent.
If you know what something is, and you know how it's used, it breaks immersion to see it used incorrectly. Once you know what you're looking at, it's distracting to see women wearing war bonnets because it's kind of like seeing this:

I just want to reply to my comment from yesterday, I spent some more time working on a costume design that looks a little better. I don't think it's THE ONE or anything but I think it's a step in the right direction.

there's probably a better thread for this tbh but I figured anyone that cared would be here from yesterday.

I don't see anything bad - per se - about using AI merely for ideas. If we get something done, artists could get on going and do their job.

I have some ideas of you know, stories about a group of friends growing up in a """"high fantasy"""" world (but not really fantasy, meaning magic) but more akin to creating a world from zero and set it too an age similar to the 1980s or so. That way no constraint of having to set the story on "Oh it's set in whatever country, whatever year, etc". Plus it adds for creativity points. Maybe. I do like the ideas expressed here.

I would love to see this series of mine eventually become an animated series.

people here are really interested in making a magical girl show? i wonder if NaggotFigger can cook up some really cool design

Might be a little off topic. But animators hating on AI reminds all the shit Ralph Bakshi got for using rotoscoping. Doug Walker himself is still getting shit from animation faggots and cartoon review YouTubers. Ralph Bakshi a boogeyman to that company for making Fritz the cats and the first animated lord of the rings movie. Ralph Bakshi a classical liberal who believes in Colorblindness. Which is why woke retards and furries thinks he a Nazi. Furries should be kissing butt Ralph Bakshi for creating them by accident.

You forgot the best clip

Constantly plays through my head when even that gay show about demons comes up.
