That said, I admit to being MATI here due to how retarded & sad it all is. A good pairing of characters got fucked over, & Scooby-Doo was getting fucked over since a decade ago. I personally never liked Mystery Incorporated even as a kid, I dislike it even more now. There was that shitty hipster comic that almost made me hate the series altogether, & many other things.

This really isn't the first time producers/writers did this whetever it was for brownie points, patting themselves on the back or both, in fact; it reminds me of recently going down the memory lane by reading about a childhood cartoon of mine called W.I.T.C.H. having one of character's sexuality being changed after Greg Weisman stepped in as a producer for season 2, despite in original source that character being a boy-crazy teen girl, trying to imply she's lesbian because most of her relationships in the series didn't work, and only thing that can be described as a "lesbian" gesture is that character holding another girl's hand or something. When someone told him that they don't see this kind of thing, he responded with:

I am sincerely really tired of this meme of "tomboyish or not 100% traditionally feminine girls = lesbian akshually" shit being pushed. It feels downright insulting, there are many girls in the world that are tomboyish or not completely girly but straight and to push this idea that all of them who are like this are "in the closet" or "lying to themselves" is regressive on its own but I guess you can be regressive towards people as much as you want as long as you say you're progressive. And of course, they pair up Velma with a strong sassy indepedent POC wahman, how else people will be able to tell that producers and writers are pushing something?

Anyway the obsession with making Velma canonically lesbian is so goddamn gross and obnoxious on top of being insulting to her character. They're not even bothering to cover up the fetishization left behind by Legend of Korra by zoning in directly on Velma like that instead of, I dunno, trying to sell the show to prove why this iteration of Scooby-Doo is completely different from all the others, and "being hella gay" doesn't count. Cartoon Network should totally be next to get gutted by Discovery+, they're just asking for it.

Honestly Scooby Doo as a whole should either just go back to its roots of doing basic storylines w/modern tales (like Mothman or something would be a cool story), or do something akin to the Zombie Island movie where they treat the horror more seriously. The show has always been about solving mysteries, and not the kind where they wonder what's under their garments.

Honestly, I could never see Velma being interested in Shaggy or any guy. She always seemed like a carpet muncher.

Knowing the climate we're in now, I can't wait for the revelation that Shaggy is actually bi/gay and he and Velma were the ultimate beards.

I agree, Adventure Time's later seasons may have been pretty rocky, but i'd say it was WAY better in terms of quality. Plus i think PB and Marceline's relationship was handled much better than something like Lumity.

I liked Adventure Time at the beginning because it was completely unlike anything I'd seen on TV before.
It felt like a transplanted web series with the writers being unabashed nerds and making tons of raunchy and/or disturbing jokes.
This turned into a curse with shows afterward having writers' fetishes unsubtly on full display and just stealing plots verbatim from whatever anime/manga that tumbler was reading today. Adventure Time itself was caught in this trap with a shifting scale of pandering and an unsatisfying fart of a conclusion.

Obviously this wasn't the first show to do such a thing, Animaniacs had tons of nerd references, obvious furry-bait and jokes about the usenet WB fandom ...but that never spiralled into a giant mess that fucked up the entire industry. Possibly the gaming industry as well.
I'm not even sure if Adventure Time itself is to blame or if it's just a symptom of the conditions surrounding it. Gaming was certainly rotten to the core by this point.
I suppose all you really need is one bad day... We live in a society...
