Would it truly be worse than the hundred and fiftieth rendition of "We're a family and family sticks together!!" though? Gone With the Wind works because the story and the events within are an actual tragedy and not just a bunch of petty melodrama bullshit like modern Disney and Pixar do.
There's also a midpoint that can work: the character forgives the part of the family that deserves forgiveness, and leaves the rest behind. If it happens so often in real life, why not in animation?

That would be fine but I'd still have to sit through an hour and a half of petty melodrama to get there since actual stakes don't exist in these movies anymore.

It's not like you could avoid that with any of the options we've been talking about here anyhow.

On a similar film, am I the only one who thinks the art for Turning Red looks like anti-Asian WWII propaganda cartoons, more than it does anime? I bet that was unintentional, if anything.

Late, I know, still though, these designs are downright ugly, yeah it might've been unintentional but the artists behind this did a terrible job and the reason as to how or why this was approved in the Pixar studio is beyond me. I miss it when they would hire actual good artists... those days are long gone.
I still remember how angry twitter was for making the aunt from Encanto white compared to her concept but no one talks about this. Really just says a lot. It's okay when Chinese-Canadians do it, guise!!!!!

Absolute hypocrisy from the American animation industry. Unsurprising.

Oh, funny you bring up Steven Universe's art style.

Remember Becky gal drawing an unused crystal gem character that looked like a black faced minstrel show performer, who embodies every comical black stereotype of the 1930s? I do remember that. I thought that was hilariously ironic that she would come up with something like that. Sure, it was an unused character, but it still exists.

Think about all this when watching those so-called "anti racist" Steven Universe PSAs. You won't think of them the same again.

IIRC a black man (Lamar Abrams?) drew that during a group sketch thing. The similarity to blackface along with the text (written by a white woman) is extremely unfortunate though.

It's almost like it's impossible for black people to be racist or something... 🤔

I've forgotten most of the minutia of that shitshow, but he did make a tumblr post about it apologizing for whatever the fuck they were accusing him of (and got called an Uncle Tom in the process, because of course he did). The image even got taken out of future editions of the art book and Sugar publicly addressed it on Twitter. I've seen my share of hypocrisy in this industry in my time, but this comes across as more of a case of sloppy communication rather than actual malice.

Not that the image of a black gem who can't read isn't hilarious out of context, mind you.

Off topic, but I have a strong opinion that with the exception of Ian Jones-Quartey that most black animators in animation industry don’t really seem to care for or like BLM or any group that pretends to care for “marginalized” groups when they‘re not being used as tools or money signs,

Most of the ones that do care for that stuff would never be animators, not because of the color of their skin, but because they’re afraid of losing to their already peer pressured “friend” group. It’s one of the reasons why Aaron McGruder, even if I were to think that his views would be completely out of touch with mine, would be the most sane when compared to these so-called “animators” just to be a part of the grift, while not caring for the world of animation or children’s storytelling.

Not to make this long, but most black animators are just looked at as props to the so-called “progressive stack” that’s mainly filled with guilt tripped people that think they owe them something, or even own them on a psychological level. Even then, most black people would possibly not like the idea of them thinking that they’re these special groups of people that can do no wrong. It’s been something I’ve thought about if you keep circling or self-centering your life on being a black animator only because you’re “black”.

Aaron McGruder is a god-tier shitlord. I think his views are quite in touch with most kiwis.

This is currently trending on Twitter today.
As much as I don’t care for any of those shows I do feel bad for these creators. It’s pretty common for them to not be told anything and to learn a show is being canceled, etc from news articles. Something similar happened to the Metalocalypse crew when Adult Swim canceled them out of nowhere and acted like complete cunts to them and the fans about it.
The industry’s community is still insufferable on Twitter tho, (at least Brenden Small is cool.)

Basically AT&T copied disney and went hey we need to buy media companies and librarys because streaming is the future!

one year later

Shit were a fucking phone company we dont know how to run media company sell this shit.

Discovery channel hey we just bought warner from ATT shit....we need to save money quick write everything off.

My friend's more well-versed in the deets, but something like that happened to Harvey Beaks to where the creator spoke out about it. Of course, that was considered a big no-no by his Nickelodeon overlords, and I'm not sure if he's been working in the industry much anymore.
