Yes, because Jamie and Monica are proven backstabbing liars and are infamous for tweaking with the anime scripts to incredibly detrimental effect lately (most notable examples being Dragon Maid and Prison School).
All while being on Funim-I mean Crunchyroll, notable for all the wrong reasons (I already talked about High Guardian Spice quite a while ago in its own dedicated thread and I'm not going to break it down in-depth again) with the inner workings of the company having been tumultuous for years there to say the very least. Yet people still side with them because these strong free-willed wamen align with muh politics. I could go on about Jamie, but Monica for example isn't the same person she used to be when she freely fucked with the scripts for both Ghost Stories and P&S S1, both to extreme positives that helped elevate both to cult status, and Redditors fail to realize that.

God, I fucking hate Reddit.
 
I don't believe there's anything we can do legally to save the animation industry in America.
It shouldn't be saved. It needs to crash. It needs to be at a point where animation is so unprofitable for the big conglomerates, they just stop making any for years and step aside for indie animation to fill the gap. Or let Japan save animation just like they saved video games.

The best option for creators is to go indie or collaborate with other independent animators to establish their own streaming platform exclusively for animation fans. Sometimes, reviving American animation in the West means finding like-minded individuals who are dissatisfied with corporations and focusing on the indie side of the industry.

It's also surprising that there isn't an indie union movement for independent game companies. Indie animation studios need to collaborate for a greater cause, or they risk facing the same fate as their larger corporate counterparts like Warner Bros. or Walt Disney Animation Studios. In my view, the situation could deteriorate further in the coming years.
There is a non-zero chance that one of these days a bunch of armchair gaming Youtubers are gonna put their heads together and make their own game console/platform/company after all those years about ranting about the industry.
 
Spongebob Squarepants, Nickelodeon's biggest success, is also their biggest downfall. Thanks to the foolish decisions of the greedy network heads, Nickelodeon's overreliance on Spongebob Squarepants has caused their animation lineup to decline drastically. Whether it be rejecting Adventure Time only to be picked up by Cartoon Network and become one of, if not, the most popular and beloved animated shows of the 2010s or causing relationships with talented creators and other crew like CH Greenblatt to sour by axing their work off the air simply because it wasn't as financially profitable as Spongebob Squarepants, Nickelodeon has shot itself in the foot numerous times and has made Spongebob their cashcow and sole life support at this point. As a result, nobody else in the animation industry wants to work for them.
What not enough people talk about is that Nick falling back on milking Spongebob may have been partially responsible for western TV animation going down the route it did in the 2010s. Because Nick relied so heavily on Spongebob from the late 2000s onwards, the battlefield of TV animation boiled down to being between CN and Disney.

CN came out guns blazing in the early 2010s with shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Sym-Bionic Titan, Mystery Incorporated, MAD, etc. Disney originally had Phineas and Ferb as their go-to TV cartoon, but then Gravity Falls usurped the throne in 2013/2014, becoming a phenomenon in of itself.

Then, as the decade went on, the industry became more nepotism-centered. A lot of the people working on CN on shows like AT and Steven Universe also worked on shows at Disney TVA, like GF and Star Vs. All the while, Nick was continuing to shoot themselves in the foot with how they handled The Legend of Korra, not realizing what they had till Avatar broke records on Netflix

Nick used to set trends, but their downfall really came from being set in their own ways while the world outside their bubble began to change around them. To matters even more complicated, said world ran into its own issues once Jailbreak changed everything and all of a sudden every cartoon had to be gay. Nick could've pushed against this zeitgeist by offering an alternative like how the original early 90s Nicktoons were a raunchy alternative to the safer and softer cartoons of the 80s, but they didn't.
 
From my perspective, there is certainly a market for high-quality, illegal, underground bootleg media that surpasses official products. It's not a question of if, but when. One of these days, the Deep Web and piracy sites will start producing their own high-quality illegal bootlegs of anime and cartoons, which may lean towards either left or right-wing narratives. Additionally, the Public Domain might contribute to this trend in the future, but that's a topic for another discussion.
This is gay and you're stupid. No piracy site is going to put the money and effort into making their own animation. Being lazy and hijacking site visitors' machines to mine crypto in exchange for anime you didn't produce is the whole point of the business model. Being uncreative is baked in.

*However* I will say you're probably right about the underground scene being the future. Vivziepop is a screeching lunatic, but she at least proves the viability of the indie business model. The problem isn't even the skill of the talent pool, lots of those crazies are pretty good. The problem is getting a bunch of indies to work together; they're indie because they like doing their own thing, not because they lack skill.

I'm reminded of Roger Ebert's only directorial offering, Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls. Being an angry unpleasable critic does not translate to decent creative output. That's the critic's conceit, don't fall for it.

I will say though, a lot of the time critics don't make better work than the people they criticize. LS Mark's pilot sucked out loud, and Mr. Enter's abortion of a concept still hasn't gotten off the ground after like 15 years of him obsessing over it.

I don't know how exactly to put this into words, but Catching Up feels like Mark wrote a script for one of his videos and transmutated it into a cartoon. I notice this specially with the dry and snarky humor, which works for a review, but putting it into an animated show just comes as awkward.

Either LS REALLY doesn't know how to write a cartoon script, or he was too afraid to make something that seemed too different from his YouTube branding (:optimistic:).

But whatever is the case, Catching Up is only as enjoyable as how much you like LS Mark as a person.

Catching Up is a confusing, meandering and boring mess.
I'm willing to give Mark one more try after seeing the comics he's been posting to his YouTube community tab. They're hit or miss but seem to have better attempts at humor or having fun characters. Are they amazing? No, but they're at least not as dull as his cartoon pilot.

Make accessible, high quality animated content that appeals to general audiences
Step two:
Figure out how on earth to successfully market it to general audiences

Untie that Gordian Knot, Alexanders, and the world will be yours.
Step three: Don’t hire perverts off Twitter and Tumblr.
 
You can get a job in the cartoon industry if you're good at it. That's all. The bitches bitching in these screenshots are just like any other showbusiness failure. They just weren't good.
Wrong. You only get a job if you befriend some slimy nepotistic rat who decides your work is ugly, lazy and subversive enough to pollute society with.
What would a union accomplish exactly? Their corporate counterparts jettisoned their 2D animation because it was too expensive and a fat blob of animators certainly couldn't be that much cheaper. The only way I could ever conceive of American animation making a revival is if some studio moved to a 3rd world country and started slumming it just for the sake of getting some cartoons out the door.
It would accelerate the collapse by making everyone realize what greedy verminous gate-keepers unionists are.
(Mind you, this isn't a bad thing. Men and Women are just different)

Aw, what? That film was fun as hell. The plot is basically grindhouse Josie and the Pussycats, and the transphobic twist ending cracks me up, having lived through the last two decades and all. I never could figure out how you can dream up such a gonzo movie as that and then go on to get so squeamish as a Serious Film Critic. Ebert was weird.
