I agree, Steven Universe had issues but it wasn't the worst fucking cartoon ever. It's one of those cartoons that just had to be tweaked and have people other than Sugar's best friends be apart of the writing team. My main criticism is that they should've focuse a lot more on gem culture.

I actually liked Star Vs's ending, Gravity Fall's too. I didn't like SU's ending, but from what I know, not even the team wanted it to end like that. I think they should've replaced the episodes they got with Future to instead add them to the main series and make the ending not as rushed, unsatisfying, and disecrating of Rose/Pink.
I hate how even in Future, everyone acts like Pink was the worst person ever when like...
hello, Pearl literally worshipped the ground Rose walked on at the beginning of the series? Why are we all acting like actually we never liked her anyway? And why are we discounting the massive fucking change she made and her attempts to be good?? That's my complaint, is it's got that woke "you have sinned and can never fully atone" thing going on that makes discourse fucking impossible with those people. Doesn't matter that Pink was an abused child from a society that couldn't have ever changed or been better for her, doesn't matter she risked her own life by going against it, doesn't matter she tried to save the gems that went with her and were corrupted for their trouble, doesn't matter any of the good she did, all that matters is "OH NOES SPINEL HAS EYELINER NOW AND STEVEN HAS A MAGICAL DESTINY THAT MEANS ROSE IS LE HECKIN EVIL AND WE NEED TO HIDE HER PAINTING!!"
I haven't watched Star Vs except in YouTube clips, so I can't comment on what the ending is/does and how it relates to the rest of the show. All I know is I love Eclipsa and I'm disappointed they destroyed all magic, like, why couldn't they just defeat those Solarian robot things and let Eclipsa continue to rule Mewni? It looked like everybody was gonna be okay with her and Globgor at that...concert thing? idk what the context is. I also think part of Weirdmageddon was rushed (Pacifica being the llama because she put on that sweater that day and them handwaving the rest of the symbols they couldn't cleanly line up...come on,) but overall it was pretty great, I think GF was a really great show and I'm glad it didn't drag on so long it lost the plot.

A big criticism against Pink that I never understood is the whole "So many people died in the gem war"... Yes? That's how war works? When you willingly join a war, it's under the idea that you may die, but you're willing to die for said cause. Especially if you're going up against space Hitler. Blaming Pink for the dead gems is like blaming a lottery ticket company cause you didn't scratch a win. Literally not their fault.

Another misconception was that Pink used Rose as a disguise, but I didn't get that vibe at all. Rose seemed more like a deep act of self-hate. Her family hated Pink, her subjects hated Pink, and she hated Pink. Ergo to her the only solution was to just stop being Pink, and running away and liberating her people gave her a great excuse to do that.

I saw her and Spinel as a sort of parasocial relationship, Spinel saw Pink as just happy and nice and playful, so her deciding she didn't wanna play anymore felt like a betrayal, which Pink knew this is how she'd react. Ergo she lied. Similarly to a parasocial relationship, Spinel couldn't understand that Pink was a deep person who was deeply hurting.

Pink is a great depiction of childhood trauma, the problem is that the entire story, cast, and writers fucking hate her. Another thing I really like about Rose was her design, very elegant. Her plus size body shape also adds to it honestly, not that I'm anti people drawing Rose skinny, but when I see people do all I can think of is I get why they didn't do that. Looks very weird and uncanny. I like her as a jolly fat woman. Well- Not jolly, deeply traumatized.

All in all, everyone expected a saint and they didn't get that. And that's her fault... For some reason.

The Star ending didn't make too much sense but... I dunno, I guess I just didn't care? It was fun so I was happy. I know, not very critical. Lol!
You make a fair point that the llama thing was kinda. Huh! I didn't think of it back then... Cause I was like 12.

honestly something I took away from the Spinel thing is that Pink/Rose didn't think she mattered too much and assumed Spinel (and the other diamonds) wouldn't care if she left and didn't come back. It's "selfish," but it's a self-hating selfish, not a narcissist "mwahahaha I will make everyone suffer at my hands!" selfish. Plus she had this weird forgetful/airheadedness at times, like when her and Pearl left the newly formed Garnet in Blue's court in The Answer and that didn't even take thousands of years for her to forget! I 100% think she didn't think Spinel would literally stay there forever, didn't think she was important enough to Spinel it would ruin Spinel's life, and didn't remember Spinel after...thousands of years of war and trauma??? Bigger fish to fry??? Even if she remembered, Spinel was a painful reminder that nobody took her seriously and she'd hurt her original playmate (Volleyball) and was given a baby-proofed replacement. Not to mention saving Spinel would've been SO fucking dangerous since that would mean leaving Earth and re-entering Diamond controlled territory while being The Gem That Shattered A Fucking Diamond!!

She's beautiful! She has this very natural and, well, Earthly design to her. It really does speak to her rejection of Homeworld. And tbh it reminds me of how abused animals (and people) get skinny because they're malnourished or neglected, but when they get into a better environment they gain weight and get happy and you can see the difference. and of course, the meta reason is that she was making herself thicc like the other quartzes:

The only issue I have with "ooh skinny rose quartz lmao" art is it's not honest, it's just made to troll angry SU fans. Nobody tries to make skinny rose quartz look good, they just want to make people mad. It's the same shit we all complain about when someone goes out of their way to make a black wheelchair hijabi pansexual character, like, you're just making something to piss people off who you disagree with politically. That's not a good place for art to come from.
Cause I was like 12.

This is actually the canon reason btw, Rebecca confirmed it in an interview. The topic of Spinel came up and she said something along the lines of "Pink didn't understand how much power she had, she didn't understand she was important to people. She honestly thought Spinel would get bored and forget she even existed.". It's "selfish" in the way where she literally had no clue it was selfish, it's very sad. And not because "Waaah poor Spinel", but because imagine thinking you're so useless that no one would care if you fucking died.

I saw it as like... The other quartez are buff for war whilst Rose made herself fat. What purpose does that serve? Literal nothing. It doesn't help with war or terraforming or intimidation, but it's something that Greg is. And many humans are. Her form is no longer linked to serving a purpose in some caste system, now it's just... A middle aged mom. I also really like the dog analogy.

Oh that's absolutely true. It's made just to anger, or it's made cause they think they'll "fix" the design by making her skinny. Same exact idea behind making white characters black btw.
jesus christ I'm old
Lol, hey, at least you were old enough to understand the ending. During Bill's crashout, 12 yr old me was sitting there like "What's a corpse"
