Caves of Qud is a great game that recently received a boost in popularity from a SsethTzeentach video found here it is a roguelike with deep complexity and a bunch of fun, random shit. Figured it could use a thread if anyone wants to discuss it here.

Oh, also the dev literally put his fursona girlfriend in the game and the 'official' discord community will litcherally shake if you misgender them which is amusing, but still a great game.

Anyone else playing or have played it?

Scanning through it, getting Dwarf Fortress vibes. I've always been interested in games like that but lack sufficient amounts of time and autism to play them properly.

When you say 'fursona girlfriend', do you mean "girlfriend's fursona" or "fursona that is a girlfriend".

Though, knowing furries it's probably a fursona "girl"friend.

From what I have seen, it is his own fursona that he would probably fuck if he could. A giant cybernetically enhanced bear woman, essentially. The game is honestly not nearly as hard as Dwarf Fortress. I really enjoy games with high complexity or depth so I've played Dwarf Fortress, Kenshi, SS13 etc and I'd say this game is on the lower end of difficulty in comparison. You will certainly die a good number of times and need to make a new character pretty quickly, but once you've found your limits you're mostly fine. I've only been playing it for a few days and I've found a good balance of safety and exploration.

The community is something else. They unironically call Sseth and his fans evil alt-right crypto-fascists simply for laughing at jokes like "africa shit country". It's pretty sad, but I think there is an unofficial Discord where they're less whiny. I don't usually join such things anyway, unless I need to ask questions. Community aside the game is an absolute joy and the Sseth video does a good job of explaining how cool it can be. If you've ever enjoyed roguelikes or like the idea of delving into infinitely deeper and more difficult dungeons while playing a character who is mutating and growing an extra arm or the ability to breathe fire every few levels, you'll like it. Just need to spend a bit of time learning to not get shit on.

Yeah the developer is a complete sperg. They freak out when they learn somebody has pirated the game yet they support communism. Then again people like him are almost a dime a dozen when it comes to indie games. Glad to hear the game itself is good though.

Indeed, give it a try if you're able. Should be able to find a repack or something pretty easily so as not to fund the sperg. Hmm, maybe I should look more into the dev. Could be threadworthy.

Well, considering the dev I suppose calling CoQ gay isn't farfetched but that's fine by me, as long as it's fun. Started a playthrough as a mutated human, and instead of choosing mutations I decided to give myself the evil twin debuff for extra character creation points. (Spawns a clone of you at random that will try to kill you with all your own items and abilities) and five unstable genome(33% chance when leveling up to get a new mutation) and I ended up getting 5 very powerful mutations(on top of the mutations I would already be getting through leveling up), leaning mostly toward psychic which is fine as my build is ego-based. I have since grown two heads, extra arms and feet and a beak. I'm basically a hideous beakfaced many-limbed mutant with world-shattering psychic abilities that can control time or manifest ice and fire.

One of my companions is a sentient baboon(all creatures that aren't robotic can mutate, especially if they're a follower and nearly anything can be a follower) who breathes fire, is covered in an organic carapace armor, has four arms and can spit slime. He wields four axes and regularly leaves limbs lying all over the god damn place after having a literal chimpout. My other companion was a psychic stalker that came to try and take my mind(psychics get uniquely hunted based on how strong they are because psychic stuff can be pretty OP) and instead of letting it hunt me I walked up and dominated her mind and made her my slave. I fed her a recipe I learned from a giant slug so now she is a giant psychic slug that spits rivers of acid, can clone herself a bunch of times, teleports around and generally does badass psychic shit. Oh and of course we all have badass guns courtesy of me who is a rather physically weak but intelligent tinker.

This game is fucking great. No playthrough is ever remotely the same, I highly recommend unstable genome as a morphotype for character creation. The results will always be different but you can always make it work with knowledge.

Yeah most game devs are degenerates in some way nowadays. That goes double for mod devs.

It all comes down to time dedication. The only people who'd be capable of pouring that much time into a project, especially a free project like this game more than likely has autism or something similar.

I wrote a review of Caves of Qud on Steam. I gave it a negative but I wasn't totally harsh about it or anything. I more wanted to inform potential buyers looking at the reviews that there is a far superior game out there that's free called Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead.

I remember @CatParty posting a thread one time where the Dev was crying about people negrating his game and bringing the review down slightly, despite the fact that it still has an overwhelmingly positive ranking. Well, this little overly sensitive baby went on Twitter to cry about my one little review that wasn't even all that negative.

This fatso is actively monitoring the reviews so he can cry about any negrates. I mean, there's petty and then there's PETTY. This fat, neckbearded doofus is definitely the latter.

This is how I found out about it btw, since I don't have a twitter account:

The reason why my playtime is so substantial is because I'm a sleepy person sometimes and my computer chair is very fancy. I find myself falling asleep in it often. And with a boring, abysmal experience like CoQ, I found myself falling asleep even more than usual. A more accurate playtime would be if you divided that time by four, and subtracted three to five hours.

Holy fuck, what a child. I mean, it shouldn't come as a surprise considering how he acts in general to criticism, but trying to use playtime as some kind of gotcha when the review isn't taking a runny shit all over the game, as well as whinging about it on Twatter within the same day, speaks volumes.

I think it's been less than a week since I wrote it, too. So this creep is regularly trolling the reviews for any negativity he can find.

Probably getting a compilation of negative reviews together for his next interview with "a video games journalist" where he'll blame any less than stellar reviews on Alt-Right instigators.

Good thing he doesn't know I'm also an evil nazi who posts on Kiwi Farms. Then he might uncover the secret of my connection to: Kiwi Farms - Gamergate - 2016 Drumph Presidency - Jan 6th coup d'etat.

CoQ dev solves the gaymer culture wars! That'll probably be the headline of his expose on Kotaku.
