In a shocking move, CBS is ending “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” next year, potentially exiting the late-night television business altogether.

The cancellation will take effect in May 2026, the normal end of the broadcast TV season, the network said.

The Thursday night announcement came just two weeks after the parent company of CBS, Paramount, settled a lawsuit lodged by President Trump against CBS News.

The settlement – and Paramount’s pending merger with Skydance Media – spurred speculation about Colbert’s future at CBS. Colbert, after all, is one of the staunchest critics of Trump on television.

CBS, however, said in a statement that “this is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Colbert shared the news at his show taping on Thursday afternoon.

“Next year will be our last season,” Colbert said as audible ‘boos’ were heard in the live studio audience. “The network will be ending our show in May,” he said. “It’s the end of ‘The Late Show’ on CBS,” he added, going on to say, “This is all just going away.”

Stern neutered the last duo who ever stood up to him and now any radio show that could remotely challenge him ignores his existence by using management to stifle them and fire their staff. That old fuck went on air one day not too long ago and started in on another show, a couple days later he's moping in studio going, "Opie and Anthony would have fought back." Well, fuck fag, you kinda used the office to fucking hamstring them at every opportunity for no reason. Why would anyone want to risk that shit in the 2020s when radio is fuckin dead?

Colbert is pissy the same way James Gunn is pissy; after years of thinking he's beyond any consequences of his actions, he finally fucked around and found out by getting fired. And worse, he can't run back to Comedy Central because CC and CBS are owned by the same people and going back to cable would be a huge step down demotion wise.

As for Stern, it's a bit more complicated. Yes, as someone else said, last time someone (Opie and Anthony) actually stood up to him and called him out, Stern basically went full bitch mode and had the suits at SiriusXM, who were sycophantic as hell to Stern, kill O&A via a death by a thousand papercuts. This is what pisses me off about Stern. He doesn't talk about how he got his start in radio anymore. But it's not like it was a fringe radio show out in Skokie, IL. Stern was so prolific that he'd written a book, later made into a movie, about his radio career. And yet somehow, he isn't bent over a barrel and made to apologize for any of it, like a lot of other people might have been.

I was there for his heyday, too. I remember people being constantly outraged. I remember his Saturday late-night show.

If I wanted to point out the hypocrisy of the left on a large scale, I'd ask why the fuck they haven't eviscerated Howard Stern. They certainly like to take out the JK Rowling punching bag any chance they get but somehow Howard is untouchable.
