So, CES has opened, which is where companies show off new and cool and functional technology that will definitely be used by millions, if not billions of people across the world.

So I figured we needed a thread to have a look at these majestic creations that we all need.

Smart Toothbrushes!
23052034-7856403-image-a-29_1578309998107.jpg

Things like the Plaqless Pro by Colgate, a smart toothbrush which glows blue when it detects plaque, before turning white as it cleans, and can sync with your phone.

Oral-B, not to be outdone, has a smart toothbrush that'll map the inside of your mouth, letting you detect where you haven't cleaned. And it has advanced AI, which is good because I'm sick of my normie toothbrush being stupider then I am.

Thankfully, normal toothbrushes still exist, but you could go for one like the one pictured above, which is the malformed fetus of a mouthguard and a toothbrush. You put the guard around your teeth and it squirts toothpaste on, before vibrating using one of three settings.

SmartFridges!
23050206-0-Samsung_s_Family_Hub_features_new_AI_capabilities_that_suggest_r-a-5_1578307745428.jpg

Samsung's SmartFridge offering is able to connect to your smartphone, analysing what is stored in the fridge and sending updates and offering recipes and meal suggestions. The new 2020 version lets you plan meals for the week in advance, and can generate a shopping list based on what's missing. Or what the inbuilt AI desires.

LG are offering TWO SmartFridges of which photos have only been sent for the thing above, one has a round ice cube maker (ice ball maker?), for those heathens out there that use those horrible non-spherical ice for drinks.

LG also lets you scan what's in the fridge, and offers suggestions, but it also offers neighbouring stores where you can buy said n eeded produce. It also offers a 22 inch glass display which can be used to surf the internet and play videos. It also offers a temperature sensor that can detect if a door's been left open. Sort of like the fridge light in many many many older fridges.

Pet accessories!

Do you need to know if the growling you hear is an enraged pitbull that's going to maul you and devour one of your needed limbs? (It is.)
Good, because we have the Smart Dog Harness, which detects a dog's heart rate and emotions, and displays it by a light, with blue being relaxed, white being concentration, red being excitement and rainbow being general happiness. It also connects to your smartphone, so you can detect if Rover's happy or sad or chasing the mailman.

MarsCat is a robotic BIONIC cat from China which can walk, run, meow, recognise human faces, and has six distinct personality types, presumably ranging from general indifference to general apathy to generally not caring. It features an open API so you can modify the moggy's personality.

And last for this post, the creme de la creme.

THE ROBOTIC CAT WAITER!
23048956-7856189-image-m-11_1578305621560.jpg

This combination of shelving and feline grace is loaded with meals made by disgusting fleshy apecreatures, which it proceeds to wheel to waiting customers, and meows until the customers pick up the food.

Customers then pat the realistic-looking feline, which responds with "The hand is so warm". But if you pat it for too long, it gets mad and tells you off, saying not to interrupt it's job.

So, anything that's exciting and FUTURE that's been announced or teased at CES that you want to spend thousands of dollars on? Do you want to run out and buy a cat waiter or a smart toothbrush?

So this is what our best and brightest diversity hires have come up with for the 2020 fiscal year huh?

Thanks, I DESPISE it

Well, fam, get ready to be encouraged, or want to commit suicide, over the concept...

Ever been stuck on the toilet and find you're out of toilet paper? Well, say no more, here's a toilet paper bringing robot to save your ass! This is just a one-off robot but it'll be in action at CES.

And from the company that bought us the smart toilets that we mocked last year is...

22960552-7849519-image-a-12_1578079354629.jpg

The Smart Showerhead!

It's got Alexa built in, who is able to read the news to you, or even shop online from the convenience of your own shower. You can also play music, and it has a 7 hour battery life, for those really really long hot showers.

They're also introducing the Smart Mirror, which'll be able to play Youtube videos.

Don't worry, that's all the new and innovative products I've seen atm. But there's still plenty more days to go.

I might benefit from using the Smart Shower Head and mirror. Don’t wanna bring my phone into the bath yo.

Smart Fridges aren't new. Honestly, the whole idea of the fridge tracking whats in it and adding things to a shopping list isn't a bad one, but I would only ever use it if it was self contained and did not need to phone home. A lot of this shit I would like if I knew it wasn't being used to log data on me for advertising and just generally spying on me. I will only use smart home stuff that I can setup and manage myself that has no connection to some corporation.

Also, that huge toilet paper roll is the real thing to show there but it's not electronic so they have the robot. That roll is supposed to last at least a month.

The only things I care about at CES are the brand new products for the PC market. CPU's, GPU's, cases, coolers, all that good stuff. The super futuristic smart shit is useless and gimmicky, while PC's are universal and will probably hang around for the next few decades. :optimistic:

Pretty much. Watched the AMD keynote and that was about it. Overpriced 5600, neat laptop, and a way overkill (but still awesome) 3990x. That thing will be an absolute monster for anyone that can actually harvest that power.

So how much of the consumer stuff is new and how much is just the shit from last years IFA`?

Also regarding showering there's a cheap chinese Bluetooth speaker that's like, at most five bucks at Target and less online
Dunno how well it works with voice activated type stuff, I rarely use speech recognition.

I give this three, maybe four weeks before it makes an appearance in the zoosadism thread.

Okay, was going to do a summary yesterday, but yeah, was unwell. Better now, so let's do 2 and 3 of FUTURE SHIT YOU NEED!

Cars!

Mercedes, in collaboration with James Cameron, unveiled the Vision AVTR Concept Car, missing a perfectly good opportunity to call it the Avacar.

'The entirely electric car, a sleek and futuristic looking sedan, is capable of traveling autonomously and can even use its unique wheel design to slide sideways using ‘bionic flaps’ that are modeled after a reptile’s scales.

The so-called flaps all allow front and rear axles in the same or opposite direction, and give the VISION AVTR the ability to move sideways by about 30 degrees, in a type of "crab movement’ that also gives the concept vehicle an animal-like exterior.'

'Drivers activate the car, which doesn’t have a steering wheel, by placing their hand on a central control unit - an action meant to mimic an iconic detail from the Avatar films.

‘The [interior] comes to life and the vehicle recognizes the driver by his or her heartbeat and breathing,’ according to Daimler.

By lifting one’s hand, a menu selection is projected onto the palm through which the passenger can choose between different functions.'

The Vision AVTR also embodies the themes of the Avatar films by using a novel organic battery that doesn’t use any rare-earth metals

'The materials of the battery are also compostable and completely recyclable which helps it to avoid reliance on fossil fuels.'

Panasonic unveiled a miniature fire engine, which features a 125 gallon water tank and a 5 gallon foam pump, with a range of 40 to 120 miles, and a top speed of 40 mph.

Said to be ideal for city fires and fires on the first floor of buildings. It looks kinda dumb, but... if it works, then I'm prepared to sing it's praises.

Also displayed was a refrigeration truck variant, presumably for Irish drivers.

Also in the cars line was prominent car manufacturer Sony.

The car features 360 degree surround sound, and multiple interactive displays to bring entertainment into the car, and a 'panoramic dashboard'. So you can play GTAV while driving.

Bosch unveiled a driverless electric bus, which features cameras to scan whether any belongings have been left, any gum placed on seats, or if any coffee has been spilled. Passengers will enter and exit through a 'keyless entry system'

23121638-7862489-Segway_brought_its_new_personal_transporter_to_CES_today_and_let-a-6_1578434879257.jpg

Fondly remembered death machine manufacturers Segway have returned with a new vehicle. It features two wheels (plus a third one), and is controlled by joystick. It goes up to 25 mph, which is pretty damn fast for a chair, and has a range of 44 miles.

Hyundai has unveiled the flying taxi! No specs have been revealed, but they're working with Uber, and they hope to have a range of 60 miles.

I'll save the rest of the amazing gadgetry, including a famous figure's disembodied head, for another post.
