In an episode of Family Guy, Stewie uses the bible to prove to Brian that he has no soul by reading to him this passage, and I quote: "Animals have no soul, and thus are automata". And then Brian died and went to hell. Seth MacFarlane wouldn't lie to us.

Not that I owe you an explanation, but I already donated to the fire relief fund and am going to mail him some model magic I don't need.

The Chandlers will get help from their community, to some extent or another. Most animals in shelters get euthanized within a week. I strongly feel these particular animals deserve to live the rest of their days away from their negligent owners. Virtually anyone would give them better care. By, y'know, providing any care whatsoever.
 
Would anyone here consider adopting OPL's pets if they got put up for adoption? By no means taking his cat and then sending pictures of it getting pickles taped on its head, but we know what most of his cats look like, and the dogs are likely purebred beagles. I'd adopt one if I lived near that area and didn't already have a murderous feline senior citizen living with me. His cats being outdoorsy will more likely go feral i guess.
 
I'm at uni where they don't allow pets that aren't fish, and my parents are opposed to getting a dog because nobody's home between the hours of 8 and 6 five days a week and that is not a good environment for a dog. Adopting one of Chris' cats, maybe, but my parents sure as fuck wouldn't want to drive six hours or so up to Ruckersville just for a cat that likely isn't very nice anyway. (If we lived in the area, it'd be a possibility because we've recently been discussing getting another cat in the near future, but we don't.)

Even if that cat were a Christorical relic, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack going through all those shelters to maybe find it. And it's probably a pretty feral cat anyway as well...
 
Sure the Chandler's pets don't live the same lifestyle as other pets. But what evidence is there that they aren't happier living that lifestyle than a standard one.

This applies more to the cats. Assuming they are fed, they have a lot of freedom to go in and out, other cats to interact with, and an endless hoard to explore. Isn't that a sweet deal if you are a cat?
 
I wonder if there were any mummified cats in the hoard. Hoards are not notoriously safe places to explore.

I guess they got spared having to visit a vet regularly too. However, as there were only a few of them, they were presumably neutered? At least the Chandlers weren't animal hoarders.

No, it's really not. Cats are social animals that need interaction, and outdoor cats have a lifespan less than half that of indoor cats. In addition, cats in hoarding situations lead an extremely dangerous lifestyle prone to health problems (mould & dust), dangers (falling items), and neglect. Cats will also tend to hide if they become sick, which in a hoarding situation means that they might never get proper vet care (not that I think the Chandlers bother to take their animals to the vet at all). It's a bad situation for anything living.

It must depend on when they get neutered. My cats were neutered later in their first year of their lives so they don't look that much different (they got really fat, though) than pre-fixing. A younger castrated male might develop that softness earlier.

I'm always surprised that cat didn't shred his face in that video. I know Chris has trouble with body language, but you'd think a hissing and growling cat would be a dead giveaway that it doesn't want to be picked up and held.

From the way he reacted, it seems he thinks this is normal behaviour for cats. Which means that either the Chandler cats are so poorly socialized that they're semi-feral, or the cats are smart enough to know that Chris is toxic.

It's not that he doesn't understand, it's that he doesn't care. In his mind, it goes something like, "I want to hold you, ergo you want to be held."
