In half of these images they look like had rainbow puked on them. Trying to include the entire visible spectrum onto your OC just makes the entire thing chaotic and confusing. It's either that or a radioactive green that gives everyone watching eye cancer.

Is there any particular reason they're so wide spread?

Someone already brought up "Unique" as the reason these things just had to happen. It didn't used to be this bad back in the day when maybe one or two unnatural color choices were used for someone's character (like teal fur), but somehow it just kinda morphed into this mess.
