Ugly design. If you're going to design a character based around something, at least make the design relate to their cause.

So to start this off, I want to mention a trend that's kind of appearing in some characters people have created for mer. Now, I have no idea why, but it's been a thing to have your mer characters be missing part of their arm. Specifically, their arm from the elbow down. These are only two examples, and while the quality of the drawing is not bad at all, the trend (which I have a sneaking suspicion that the SJWs on Tumblr are responsible) has been noticed for a while.
Now, feast your eyes on this that the artist "cleverly" referred to as Merjuku, a portmanteau of mermaid and harjuku. Now, the concept I'm not against at all. However, don't make the background pastel when your character is as well. It's incredible hard to figure out where the character is and the background is.
Speaking of ill-defined characters, I think this one qualifies as well. The color palette is not the problem, it's just that there's (imo) too much going on, and the character would benefit from being simplified with this palette.
This next one I stumbled on and thought was funny. In any instance that's not a close-up, many of the tattoos listed here are going to be just a blurry mess. So way to go.
ONLINE COLOR PALETTES EXIST. Plus, not only do they exist, there's no harmony with the character. I can tell it's attempted, with the seafoam green color on the feet, but the huge splotch of purple throws it off. It's too saturated to mesh well with the others. I can't even figure out what the problem is exactly, but I know that I'd try and switch the placement of colors to figure out what looks best.
Actually, after thinking it over, the problem is that there's no one main color. The teal might be considered one, but for some reason it doesn't work. I'd either switch out the purple chest for a different color, or really just use a different palette entirely, with less colors.
As a joke, I named this "Reason Why Moana Was 3D", and it's true. Maori tattoos (I'm making a guess, I'm not sure if they're Samoan or Hawaiian or what so I'm calling them Maori) are very intricate and detailed, and only by making the texture ONCE and then animating the model could it have been anything other than pain (which is why even though some of the things I have may not be considered super complicated as a still image, as an animator I view character designs as "how much of a pain would it be to animate that?", which is why I've had people comment that my still image designs are a bit bland).
Also his head, with the black/white pattern combined with the black/white of the facial features, makes it super hard to read his face.
Overall, it was a little difficult finding ones that I thought were good for the thread. Despite being a huge sex symbol, either because mermaids are for young girls and not boys, there's not much of a sex-crazed porn fandom like furries have. And I've yet to figure out why.
The only one that does get "porny" is Ariel, and only legged Ariel as well.
Due to the young age of most of the fans, they're usually in the elementary-early middle school age group, so I feel bad laughing at their designs.

Whoever get's stuck having to make this trainwreck better be asking for at least 4,000 grand. The amount of different colored fur/paint for the markings and the BLM symbol is not going to be able to get done in a short span of time. That's not even considering how large the owner of this design is and how much material would be needed.

You're talking about the furry fandom. You'll find plenty who'll happily make this because it's against the cops. You'll soon have issues finding someone against it that was well known and liked in the furry community.

Yeah it seems like every well known name in the fandom is starting to take a direct shift from being somewhat level headed to 10 IQ. Especially some people I used to talk to, who (now) label themselves antifa as if associating with terrorists is something to be proud of.

First :what kind of animal is at? My best guess is that there're a generic cat-dog hybrid . And not be able to tell what animal your fursona is a huge sin i my eyes.
Second : The color and patterns are quite an eye sore and blm fist, what is it 2016 again ?
Third : The art style is pretty cute and is the only thing going for it ,but i feel like the art style doesn't really fit well with Riot's " character" . and yes i know this was a commission
And finally : Sorry Riot , but hating the PoPo is not a personality .
