Hentai, no. 1980s golden age anime, yes. I can't say that I remember any of the Dirty Pairs airing in the United States, like on the Sci-Fi Channel before it became Syfy and started airing nothing but shitty B-movies. I understand it aired in some Western European countries, along with many other great titles. Apart from Sci-Fi, the few titles which aired here (basically just Macross as Robotech) were usually co-productions for Hasbro's toy franchises.

I didn't exactly pop a boner for Ariel when I first saw the movie, I was nowhere near my sexual awakening, but I definitely recall seeing her as a kid and thinking she was beautiful and didn't fall into the "girls are icky" category. I'm pretty sure she is the sole reason I am so fascinated by mermaids, even into my adulthood, I love to read stories about them and study various cultures mythology on them.
