Charlie Hebdo Attack

Tragic, horrible, prayers to families, attack on freedom of speech, blame the comic creators for provoking the Muslims, sarcastic reference to the religion of peace, rebuttal that not all Muslims are extremists, did I miss anything?

It's absolutely baffling how alien their honorbound culture seems. Over here, pope John Paul II is insulted on the regular to provoke ignorant Catholics to make fools out of themselves. They chimp out a lot, but don't drive over to your house to fuck your shit up.

In the end, I suppose the comic creators get to laugh last from beyond the grave by proving that extremist Muslims are absolutely nuts.

The answer to speech is more speech. These assholes murdered a bunch of wiseasses and basically cut off any chance for a more respectable rebuttal to a pile of mean-spirited and less-than-poignant commentary.

Fee-fees are no excuse to murder anyone.

This is not a joke: USA Today published an op-ed this morning by a self described "radical muslim" arguing that the dead staffers of Charlie Hebdo had it coming.

Rolled my eyes until I reached the end and saw who'd written that - then laughed. In the UK that chap is well known to be a leaking cereal box full of dog shit, to put it mildly.

Yeah, guy's an arse.

I was going to write a big long rant about principles of freedom and the unequal demands made by extremists, but it was pretty boring. So instead I'm just going to say: if you satirise someone so hard that they are provoked into killing you, you win at satire.

There's been some victim-blaming, which is pretty bigoted, if you ask me. When someone says the cartoonists were begging for trouble, the implication is that Muslims are intellectually on par with animals -with no ability to reason and predictably resorting to violence.

"You poked a bear with a stick, what did you think would happen? Of course it took a swipe at you!"

"You made fun of a sand-nigger, what did you think would happen? Of course he shot you!"

What an unfortunate situation. Violence is bad and counterproductive. The actions of extremists aren't very indicative of the causes that they advocate but people think that's how it is.

To quote Alan Moore, "Ideas are bulletproof."Now we wait to see if people responding to this thread will bring out their inner Jaces or not...

"Anonymous declares war over Charlie Hebdo attack"

Anonymous #francophone #OpCharlieHebdo // 01.07.2015

Message to the enemies of freedom of expression.

January 7, 2015, freedom of expression has suffered inhuman assault. Terrorists broke into the premises of the newspaper and coldly shot several illustrators and journalists and two policemen. The killers are still at large. Revolted, shocked, we can not fall to the ground. It is our duty to react.

First, we wish to express our condolences to the families of the victims of this cowardly and despicable act. We are all affected by the departure of Cabu, Charb, Tignous and Wolinski, the giants of illustration who marked their talent throughout the history of the press and died for freedom. We do not forget the other victims killed in the attack who were in the way of these murderers and those who are still fighting to stay alive.

It is clear that some people do not want, in a free world, the inviolable and sacred right to express in any way his opinions. Anonymous will never have this right violated by obscurantism and mysticism. We will fight always and everywhere the enemies of freedom of expression. Charlie Hebdo, historical figure of satirical journalism, has now been targeted. Anonymous must remind every citizen that freedom of the press is a fundamental principle of democratic countries. Freedom of opinion, expression and to publish articles under without threat, or constraint is an "inalienable" right. Anonymous has always fought the sworn enemies of these rights and will never allow a person to be cowardly shot down because he published an article, a drawing, an opinion ...

Freedom of expression and opinion is a non-negotiable thing, to tackle it is to attack democracy. Expect a massive frontal reaction from us because the struggle for the defense of those freedoms is the foundation of our movement.

We are legion.
We do not forget.
We do not forgive.
Fear us!

At media job I was running through audio of coverage, and a host who was grossly unaware made a point to correct Charlie into "Charles".

I can understand that some people don't necessarily agree with the work they do, but I believe in free speech. It's a shitty thing that happened. This is also the first time a terrorist cell has effectively wiped out a newspaper.

Rest in peace, Charlie Hebdo.
