I simply don't understand how he still gets that many views and is so popular. I get when he initially first changed content from his gaming/storytime videos he'd have kept some of his old audience. But it's like 3 years later and he keeps getting bigger. He makes objectively shit videos which he doesn't even bother editing.
I feel like the people who watch that sorta stuff (Critikal, SOG, Pyrocynical, Loldwig) must either be too stupid or too young to realize it's awful. Big view count = good video.

He's getting views because he attracts a good majority of middle schoolers, and people during adolescence have bad taste in anything until they grow older and think about their embarrassing tastes.

He's a legacy holdover from old YouTube. He was very early on decided as brand-friendly edgy and therefore never suppressed. YouTube obviously restricts some video's possible reach which is partly the reason they got rid of the "# (x) in (y) category" tag-lines that appeared under videos (Ex: This video is #2 in gaming this week), it was made clear that videos that were obviously spreading were not "correctly" displayed as gaining traction. His reputation within the system proved him to be barely offensive so there was never any reason to obscure him. I think youtubers crying about "muh videos not showing up in subscription feed" or "muh algorithm suppressing me" are cringe for the most part but there is merit to those concerns and it's clear that this guy has self-moderated enough as the times changed to have his channel ignored if not white-listed by youtube. If I had to compare him to anyone, it would be Sniperwolf or however you spell that thot's username. If you open a private tab on youtube, there's a good chance that you will be recommended a video from her or charlie because they have consistently proven themselves as milquetoast, non-offensive and advertiser-friendly enough to be sorted to the top of the list of videos a completely new user of the site sees.

I'm going to be honest, if you asked me anytime but a couple of days ago if this guy is a lolcow I would say all you're going to get from those udders is dust.
However, him actually getting mad enough at sneako to post a video of himself flashing his weapon makes me second guess that assumption.
