After Chase's friend came in here and posted the video it became incredibly easy to verify that neither of those accusations are true at all, you all just ignored it.

For example, a quick search reveals the thread on /b/ made by whoever stole Chris's license plate at their home with the plate. This thread was posted 8/02/2021 at 10:14 PM.

Very true, didn't consider that aspect. The best thing to do would be to find the archived version of the thread and see when it was created from a known time zone and compare that to the known time Chase went to the motel.
Ignoring the potential time zone issues, there is still the question of whether or not the video recorded of Chase's arrival at the van is truly his first time arriving.
If it isn't the first time, then Chase lied to all of his discord friends and faked his reaction to them missing in order to hide the fact that he is the license plate thief. If it was the first time, then the reaction was genuine and he isn't the thief.

I might just be more willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt here, though.

I am Mountain Time and for me the thread was posted at 8:14 PM. Since Chris's car is in Virginia and the entire East coast uses Eastern time, the latest the license plate could have been stolen was 10:14 PM, when the post was submitted to /b/. From what we know from the video, Chase first arrived at the car around 11:30 PM.
However, we currently have no knowledge of if the person screen recording the discord call was also on East coast time, but we can assume so since airshit is largely an American thing and East coast time is the latest time zone.

If the screen recorder was in Pacific time (earliest US time), the video would imply that Chase was actually visiting Chris's car at 2 am, again past the time we know the plate was stolen. If the recorder is pacific time then it is possible that Chase went there, stole the plate, brought it home and uploaded the thread, then went back and faked the discovery of the plate missing. But what would the point be of doing that?

I've had to track down a kid who shot my mom in the face with a paintball gun while we were walking my dog. I knew he lived in a subdivision a near mine, but not the specific house. Also knew he played more airsoft but had a paintball gun. It was 2005 and not everything was on the internet. Found it based on all the airsoft pellets on the ground and paintball marks on the trees. Dingdong ditched him to confirm. Let parents know. They told his parents, who then sent him to one of those god-awful teen wilderness programs (it was the final straw after a bunch of other bad activities, like abusing small animals and bullying kids at school). If he hadn't trashed his yard, he'd just have to lay low for a few weeks. I only knew his first name. His parents agreed it was him because they knew he wasn't home when we said the incident happened.

Not saying this because I want people to go to his house. Just saying it so he cleans his yard and keeps a lower profile in the future.

what i do is convert every reported, deduced, or assumed time to UTC. when working between time zones, UTC is the most conducive to inter-timezone coordination
