God, the thought of her crippling medical debt is getting me rock hard

Being in Seattle a long time and working different places and being parts of different groups Im finding I'm only a degrees of seperation from both Diaz Love and Summer Taylor. They dont seem like bad people, and I know KF generally isn't a fan of non-binary and trans folks, but Ive never cared a lot. 'they/their', fine I can happily do that for you, just don't jump if I forget and make a honest mistake. Diaz and Summer are nice enough people, Summer was a vet tech and obviously lved doggos and taking care of animals which every kiwi farmer can respect. I'm seeing on facbook pictures of Summer dancing and smiling just before they got hit, the poor person was having fun, thought they were partof something positive and exciting and making a difference to make lives better for marginalized people.

But the level of disconnect from people i know and have known for decades and worked alongside is shaking me up. Comments like crazy about how its the cops fault for not shutting the freeway even though the cops tried to, this was murder but it was murder because of cops actually, the cops should have kept both Diaz and Summer safe, all protests are fine and a quote "all public land belongs to the public" as if the flawed assertion that because you are part of the public you have the right to walk on the freeway and put yourself and anyone driving at risk makes sense.. Well i don't know where to even start. And then it goes another level saying that having I5 in the first place was an act of aggression and that people were displaced from Yesler Terrace, something that happened over half a century ago, as if that makes it okay in curent year to just put yourself in harms way and you're absolved of any responsibility for taking your own life in your hands.

Im not even trying to be a edgelord. Summer seemed like a nice person and the danger hair and tats don't bother me, if they did I wouldn't live in a place like Seattle. Ive lived here a long time, and I actually like Seattle's weird spirit, I like the weird stuff, the parades and the weird art and the selfimportant protests. I used to read The Stranger and SLOG and lived on Capitol Hill for a long time and I was part of the arts scene and my first apartment was on Broadway and my first restaurant job was in the Pike-Pine area and I used to go to The Breakroom before it was Chop Suey and Im bummed Bills Off Broadway is closing. And I think the SPD is a bad bunch, they do need reform and have a history of bigotry and racism and protecting their ranks and have a couple of interventions from the Justice Department because of their conduct. I wish previous chief O'Toole and current chief Best could make changes and that the SPD union wasn't so powerful. But they shouildnt be abolished and its so bad its funny when I see people I know turning themselves into knots to blame every possible bad thing thats happened on the cops. Theyve made it so the cops are damned if they do and damned if they dont, any action they take or any action they don't take is answered with criticsm and rage. Im on Central District groups and they are clawing at each other and they're all supposed to be on the sam side. I can laugh at it because they all take themselves so seriously. But this is takigng themselves seriously beyond the point of delusion.

It won't, sadly. They'll just shift to blaming the cops they're trying to have defunded/abolished for not protecting their spontaneous playfest on the freeway. They'll probably do it more as a result.

I have an...acquaintance who was bitching about the cops response to the whole thing (which was "it's illegal to be on the freeway on foot and we can't guarantee your safety if you choose to do so"), calling it the most sickening thing she'd heard and how the cops should be ashamed of themselves (for pointing out the fucking obvious).

There is no logic to it other than they want to be able to fuck with other people with absolutely no risk or consequences for themselves, and if the authorities can't guarantee that then they most be to blame and need to be replaced with people who will (i.e. people that will stand at every entrance and exit to the freeway and shoot any motherfucker that dares to think about trying to get on or off the freeway or otherwise move their car).

The freeway party was a power move and had little to do with inconveniencing others. If you want the city of Seattle to grind to a halt, you block 2nd Ave or 4th Ave downtown during rush hour. The last time the "abolish ICE" mouthbreathers pulled that shit, my normal 30-minute commute took almost two hours.

They blocked the freeway and got WSDOT, SDOT, and SPD to participate in that dumbassery as a flex, no more, no less. And anyone with half a brain could see where that was heading. Waiting until after someone is seriously hurt or killed to stop stupid behavior/fix an obvious deathtrap is the Seattle Way.

All this said, I don't buy that the driver is purely innocent. I saw another local say he had an interaction with him a few months ago, and the guy is apparently an antisocial dickhead. He went the wrong way up a freeway exit and drove 60 mph where there were protesters most likely because he was pissed off about being inconvenienced. I can sympathize with feeling that way, but I can't sympathize with the actions he took. He's not a white supremacist or a counterprotester, but he is guilty of vehicular manslaughter.

I’m just amused that these women don’t understand what keeps them safe from random violence . You have three ways of keeping women and children safe from outsiders
1. A perfect society where everyone is calm and non violent. This is a utopic idea and doesn’t exist.
2. A society where women are locked up, like in Saudi. That means no one from outside can access them. It also means they’re totally at the mercy of those within the walls.
3. A western rule of law society, with basic decency enshrined in social norms and a strong police/court system.
None of these are perfect, but I’d rather live in 3. Because 1 doesn’t exist and 2 leaves you powerless.

He shouldn't be guilty of anything. Some local (who may or may not be insane judging from a lot of the locals we've seen here trying to grow vegetables out of cardboard) saying he was an antisocial dickhead doesn't mean anything. And getting pissed off at dumb protestors doesn't make one anti social, it makes them a normal human being with a functioning brain.

These people weren't just standing on the highway. They blocked the highway with their vehicles, and when a vehicle was approaching them, ran straight into the one space they left for vehicles to come through. Even worse, they did this around a bend. It's almost as if they wanted to get hit but it came harder than they expected. I don't know the guy, but I'm sure he doesn't feel good about killing someone, even if it was that person's fault.

It's like if I was cooking something and someone comes and places their hand directly on the hot stove. Then wants to sue me for assault.
