Large parts of Connecticut have fairly rural conservative areas, as well as very rich conservative suburbs. Vermont's probably the closest thing to an actual 100% blue state.

They are. Police SDOT (judging by the vests) are just throwing all the tents into the back of a dump truck. Apparently the plan is to photograph the tents and their contents, post it on a website, and let people claim their stuff from there. The protesters are bitching that they can't go get their stuff now, and that the homeless people "are losing everything they own".
