Culture Chicago Marathon's quiet nonbinary division addition 'feels hurtful,' runner says - The lack of hype around the new inclusive division left some of those who identify as such with a bad taste in their mouths.

Some Chicago Marathon runners are feeling a little blue heading into this weekend’s race.

One of the biggest events of the year for the sport followed Boston and London with the creation of a nonbinary division for runners who don’t identify as male or female. The lack of hype around the new inclusive division left some of those who identify as such with a bad taste in their mouths.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, there was no major announcement to coincide with the division.

"Personally, it feels hurtful because it feels performative, or brushed under the rug, because it really is a big deal," Cal Calamia told the newspaper, adding they were "excited" to compete in their hometown.

The Boston Marathon made its announcement of a nonbinary division last month. The division will compete in 2023. London also announced the creation of a nonbinary division for 2023.

The New York City Marathon did it last year. The Philadelphia Distance Run was the first large race in the U.S. to establish a nonbinary division and offer equal prize money. The event did that last year.

"As a trans athlete, showing up and registering for these races is a hard thing to do, because there’s not usually space," Calamia told the Sun-Times. "What makes it easier is when big organizations with a lot of power say, ‘We’re adding this category and we’re proud of it, and we’re doing what it takes to celebrate these runners who are now being invited to our event."

About 70 runners are registered for the nonbinary division in the Chicago Marathon.

"While we’re excited to introduce the nonbinary division, we recognize the opportunity for continued dialogue, learning and progress with our event. Discussions are ongoing with non-binary participants and leaders within our sport to work together towards our goal of creating more inclusive event experiences," Chicago Marathon spokeswoman Alex Sawyer told the paper.

The marathon will begin on Oct. 9.

The race will feature defending champions Ruth Chepngetich, of Kenya, Seifu Tura, of Ethiopia, and Americans Tatyana McFadden and Daniel Romanchuk.

Hold on, it's not enough to make the division, but the marathon has to coo over what a Good Thing™️ they did and figuratively masturbate over it? Honey, if you want to be seen as "just like the rest of the crowd," having the division announced without any additional fanfare was the right thing to do. Your narcissism is showing.

Non binary is white women who want to get attention for trooning out but can't become men because they hate men.

It is essentially self-diagnosed GOTIS.

FOX's article leaves out one big important detail: The nonbinary division in the Chicago Marathon will NOT have an "elite" nonbinary division. Anyone who choose to race for the nonbinary division will NOT be able to compete for a cash reward.

That's why they're so pissed, it's beyond the fact that the nonbinary division wasn't announced and made some big deal. The TiMs deciding to join the nonbinary division are just pissed off that they won't have a chance to win easy money against all of the TiFs also running in the same division.

They are really this delusional huh? "Waaaah we need more attention and money and 'hype' for our degeneracy!" All while the winds are changing. Can you feel it too? That cool cleansing breeze out of the north? Ahh , it smells of apathy and spent patience with a tinge of fresh, well deserved hate.

The Chicago Marathon actually has some standards. If you want a shot at the prize money, you have to qualify in another city's marathon 24 months prior, which is not only travel time but jumping through another event's hoops regarding SEX ASSIGNED AT BIRTH, entrance fees, number pickup, etc. You can't just leap into the women's category as a man and hope to scoop their prize money, because Kenyans have been flying over here to steal all the easy purses for the past 30 years and closed all the sneaky loopholes a long time ago. We have a century of data regarding men's and women's best running times and the numbers don't lie, even if you do on your application forms.
