True, they may be breaking the law, but we've been over this before. Do you really think the ASPCA or the county animal control organization really wants to take dogs away from a widow and her autistic son? The best thing that could happen is that they'd cite Chris and Barb and tell them what they'd have to do to properly take care of the beagles, and followup a month later. Chris would go on Facebook and baww about how the county is trolling him and may take away his dogs.

I feel sorry for the dogs like everyone else. They have a deranged woman and an adult autistic child "caring" for them.

That would at least be something, maybe after a while he'd start listening to them and taking better care of his animals.

I believe that if the Chandlers didn't comply they'd remove the animals and re-home them and slap them with a $250 fine. I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to euthanize the pets unless they have a contagious disease or are considered dangerous. Oh, and label them unfit owners so they aren't allowed to get any more pets.

But I wonder how and why Chris want the dogs if Chris doesn't even bother to take care of them properly.

Honestly, it's probably for the same reason that Barb buys gobs of shit from Goodwill that nobody is going to wear and Chris downloads games he's never going to play--for the thrill of having it.
 
There are a lot of benefits to having pets, esp. for autistic people like Chris and mentally ill people like Barb. Even neurotypical people get a lot of out of having pets, such as lower STRESS and lower blood pressure, both things Chris needs :)

But I agree, they aren't treating those poor dogs the way they should be treated. Chris probably does think he's doing everything he can for the dogs, he is an adult autistic child after all.

It might be that Chris and Barb want all the benefits of having pets with as little of the work as possible. If that were the case they should volunteer at an animal shelter. Of course, Barb rarely leaves home anymore and Chris would find volunteering too stressful as it takes time away from his vidya.

^This. Chris wants the affection that a pet brings but not the work and responsibilities that come with it.

As for Barb, I think she just views the animals as part of her horde.

I actually wouldn't trust those dogs would be alright outside 14 Branchland Court, especially without a fence. That area is scary at night. They'll see something (with the 6th Sense dogs have) and go "Eeeee! Eeeeee!" and disappear.

Patty had an outdoor pen and as far as I know it's still there. The major issue with having beagles that are badly trained outdoors is that they are hunting dogs and they tend to try and alert their owners to everything. Beagle howling would definitely piss off the neighbours.

Yeah. If he got an easy pet to take care of, it wouldn't be too bad. The local news had a segment about sped kids taking care of the class hamster, so if mentally handicapped kids could take care of a hamster, I assume Chris could.

Then again, I've overestimated Chris before.

No but seriously, I've lived in a house with two cats and one is the sweetest and almost puppy-like in demeanor. The other one is kind of an asshole but loves to be petted and will nuzzle you until you do so. I've never seen either of them behave in such a way as Kitty did with Chris. At least the cats are let out of the house. The poor beagles are probably miserable. (:_(

It would have been undermined anyway. Borb preferred to teach Chris the lessons of how to lie, steal, cheat, and shift blame.

Those dogs exist to entertain Chris and Barb, who care nothing for the animals' happiness or welfare. They're like sentient toys.
